The Flyers announced on Monday that forward Max Talbot has a broken left leg, suffered in Sunday's wild 5-4 OT win over Washington.

Talbot will likely miss the rest of the season.

The Flyers may recall Eric Wellwood from the Phantoms.

A league source confirmed that the Flyers are having exploratory trade talks for Dallas winger Jaromir Jagr, Calgary defenseman Jay Bouwmeester and San Jose winger Ryane Clowe.Bouwmeester, however, was traded to St. Louis on Monday night.

Talbot, arguably the Flyers' best penalty killer, had four goals in his last nine games.

"Some guys have to step up now," winger Zac Rinaldo said.

Talbot, 29, was injured after colliding with the Capitals' Mike Green and had to be carried to the locker room during  Sunday's second period.

The Flyers are making a late playoff run _ at the same time they have been hit hard by injuries. They have lost Nick Grossmann, Braydon Coburn, Andrej Meszaros, Danny Briere and Talbot to injuries in a nine-day span.

GM Paul Holmgren said Saturday the Flyers would not pursue a "rental" player for the stretch run, but after wins over Boston and Washington over the weekend moved the Flyers to within two points of eighth place in the East, he apparently has had a change of heart.

Jagr, having an impressive season with Dallas, is available, and he had great chemistry with the Flyers last season.

Clowe, who has no goals in 28 games, is also a possibilty.

The Flyers have $3.5 million in cap space, but that can grow substantially if they place more injured players on the LTIR list. Currently, only Chris Pronger, Matt Walker and Jody Shelley are on LTIR.
