Flyers' Michal Neuvirth limping badly after loss; Caps up next

As if things weren't bad enough in Flyer-dom, goalie Michael Neuvirth, arguably the team's MVP, was limping badly after the game and had to receive medical attention.

He was not available to the media, and the Flyers won't have an update until Tuesday.

Neuvirth, who took the league's second-best save percentage (.936) into Monday's 3-2 loss to Boston, pulled his groin at practice a few days ago, and the latest injury may be related.

Caps up next. The Flyers will have to bring their 'A' game or they are going to go into the all-star break on a four-game losing streak.

Fact is, they could bring their 'A' game and it might not be enough on Wednesday. That's when the play at Washington, the NHL's best team.

Simmonds shines. Wayne Simmonds had his 13th and 14th goals and fired nine shots - the second-highest total in his career - in Monday's loss.

Boston goalie Tuukka Rask was if Simmonds was underrated.

"Not in my eyes," he said. "He's always been a dangerous player. A big guy, righthanded shot, and good vision out there. There's plenty of guys in this league that stay off the mainstream a little bit. He's probably one of those."

Weal debut. Jordan Weal played well in his Flyers' debut, creating a handful of scoring chances and playing nearly 10 minutes, including 1:56 on the second power-play unit.

Breakaways. Claude Giroux played a game-high 25:15 and had four shots while winning 19 of 33 faceoffs (58 percent)...Michael Del Zotto had an assist and blocked five shots.....R.J. Umberger played a game-low 7:39...Former Flyer Zac Rinaldo had four hits in 8:46 for Boston and (surprise, surprise) stayed out of the penalty box.
