Flyers' Lecavalier needs strong finish

Goal-less in his last 27 games, Flyers forward Vinny Lecavalier says a solid finish would help toward next season.

PITTSBURGH _ Goal-less in his last 27 games, Flyers forward Vinny Lecavalier says a solid finish would help toward next season.

"I want to finish strong. I'd like to get one in. It's all about confidence and seeing the net," said Lecavalier, whose team plays in Pittsburgh on Wednesday night. "When you haven't scored in a long time" it weighs on you.

A goal or two would give him confidence for 2015-16.

"It's funny that sometimes one moment can change your whole look on the game," he said. "Say a puck goes off your skate and goes in, it just feels like when you go out there the next shift and the next time you get a shot, you see the net better, you see the goalie look smaller _ instead of it being the opposite."

Lecvavalier, who has been a healthy scratch 17 times and has missed seven games with a broken foot, has just seven goals after scoring 20 last year. He has spent most of the season on the fourth line, and he will play right wing Wednesday on a unit with Pierre-Edouard-Bellemare and Chris VandeVelde.

Road woes. The Flyers are trying to snap a nine-game road losing streak (0-5-4). They haven't won on the road since a 2-1 victory in Buffalo on Feb. 15.

The Flyers (30-29-17) haven't lost 10 straight on the road since 1991-92. They have a 9-20-10 road record this season; Pittsburgh (42-23-11) is 23-12-4 at home.

Goalie matchup. Steve Mason (15-17-11), who has a 2.24 GAA and .927 save percentage, will face Pittsburgh's Marc-Andre Fleury (33-17-8, 2.26, .921).

Incredibly, Mason has more road shutouts (2) than road wins (1).

Mason could finish with the highest save percentage in franchise history since the NHL officially started tracking the stat in 1982. The current record is held by Roman Cechmanek, who had a .925 save percentage in 2002-03.

Breakaways. The Flyers are 2-0 vs. the Penguins this season, outscoring Pittsburgh, 8-5. They have won six straight over the Pens….Sidney Crosby, whose 1.11 points-per-game average tops the NHL, will be aiming for his 300th career goal tonight. Crosby is trying to become the first player in 13 years to win consecutive scoring titles….Jake Voracek (76 points) is averaging one point per game…..Because of salary-cap problems and injuries, Pittsburgh has just five defensemen available Wednesday, and it will use forward Daniel Winnik as  an emergency D-man, if necessary…The Flyers' projected D pairings: Mark Streit-Nick Grossmann; Nick Schultz-Michael Del Zotto; and Carlo Colaiacovo-Brandon Manning….Injured defenseman Luke Schenn leads the Flyers with 194 hits.
