Flyers center Claude Giroux said it would be an honor if he was selected to represent Canada in the Olympics.

“Obviously, everyone wants to represent their country,” he said the other day.

But Giroux, stunningly, was snubbed when Canada announced its 25-player team on Tuesday.

“Those questions are for Team Canada,” Giroux told reporters in Newark, where he learned he was not selected. “I’m the hockey player. I was there to put my product out and play the best I could and I didn’t make it. You gotta move forward.”

According to, no Canadian player has more points than Giroux (179) over the last three seasons.

The Flyers have five players who will be participating in the Olympics: defenseman Kimmo Timonen (Finland); right winger Jake Voracek (Czech Republic); left winger Michael Raffl (Austria); defenseman Andrej Meszaros (Slovakia); and defenseman Mark Streit (Switzerland).

Timonen and Meszaros were named on Tuesday.

Giroux, who turns 26 next week, said he was "disappointed," but not angry at not making the team. "It's tough today, but we have a game and I have to put it behind me," he said.

The Flyers play New Jersey on Tuesday night.

Jeff Carter (26 points) and Rick Nash (18 points) were among the forwards selected over Giroux.

Giroux, who has 38 points, could be added as an alternate.

New Jersey's Jaromir Jagr told reporters Giroux wasn't the only player snubbed. He said Canada "can name probably two more teams close to this."

Marty St. Louis, Mike Richards and Logan Couture (injured) were among the forwards also snubbed.

Defensemen Nick Grossmann and Erik Gustafsson were bypassed by Sweden.

After a slow start that was hindered by a still-healing surgically repaired finger, Giroux has rebounded and helped steer the Flyers’ resurgence. Goal-less in his first 16 games, Giroux now has 12 goals and a team-high 38 points in 42 games.

"He's turned this team around," winger Scott Hartnell said.

Team Canada will be led by the Penguins’ Sidney Crosby

Late in the summer, Giroux declined an invitation to attend Canada’s Olympic camp because he was rehabbing his finger, which was injured in a bizarre golf accident. He then started the season in a prolonged slump, bringing his two-year goal-less streak to 21 games.

Giroux has 12 goals in his last 26 games.

It wasn’t enough.

Look for Giroux to play with a chip on his shoulder in the second half of the season, much like Cherry Hill's Bobby Ryan, the Ottawa forward who surprisingly was bypassed by Team USA.

Breakaways. Left winger Michael Raffl will return to the Flyers' lineup after missing a game because of a concussion...Ray Emery will face Devils legend Marty Brodeur.
