Five things to know today about the Flyers, who are in running for Foo

The Flyers are done playing, but the news doesn't end:

  1. Union junior right winger Spencer Foo is expected to sign with an NHL team this weekend, according to the Canyon News. The Flyers, Edmonton and Los Angeles are believed to be among the contenders. Foo, 22, is an Edmonton native, so the Oilers may have the edge. Then again, his Union teammate, Mike Vecchione, recently signed with the Flyers. The 6-foot, 180-pound Foo had 26 goals and 62 points in 38 games this season.

  2. General manager Ron Hextall said he hasn't started negotiating yet with the agents for Jordan Weal (unrestricted free agent) and Shayne Gostisbehere (restricted free agent). It will be interesting to see if the Flyers sign Weal before the June expansion draft. If they do, he would have to be protected.

  3. Hextall said there was "no rush" to name a replacement for assistant coach Joe Mullen, whose contract was not renewed. He said he was looking for an "offensive-minded guy." Could Danny Briere be a candidate? Mullen's replacement will run the team's power play.

  4. The NHL's draft lottery will be held April 29. The Flyers have a 2.2 percent chance of getting the top overall pick.

  5. It's unlikely highly touted defenseman Phil Myers will play for the Phantoms during the AHL playoffs. He joined the team this week and will participate in practices, but it will take him a while to get adjusted to the new league, Lehigh Valley coach Scott Gordon said.
