Five things to know today about the Flyers

Five things to know about the Flyers today:

  1. The trade deadline is at 3 p.m. Wednesday. Mark Streit, Steve Mason, Michal Neuvirth, and Michael Del Zotto are among the candidates to be dealt. GM Ron Hextall has made some shrew deadline deals, including the 2015 trade that sent Braydon Coburn to Tampa for Radko Gudas, a first-rounder in 2015, and a third-rounder in 2015. That first-round pick was later traded to Toronto as part of a deal to move up in the 2015 draft and select Travis Konecny.

  2. The Flyers' 4-0 win over worst-in-the-NHL Colorado on Tuesday, coupled with Toronto's loss, moved them to within four points of the Maple Leafs for the final Eastern Conference wild-card spot with 20 games left. Last year, the Flyers were three points out of a playoff spot at the trade deadline, did not make any deals, and inched into the postseason.

  3. Mason  recorded his 32nd career shutout and 13th with the Flyers on Tuesday. He is three shutouts from tying Doug Favell for fourth on the franchise's all-time list, and five from tying Hextall for third.

  4. Claude Giroux had two power-play assists Tuesday. He is tied with Phil Kessel for the NHL lead with 26 power-play points.

  5. Gudas had seven hits and four blocked shots in 21 minutes, 18 seconds Tuesday. He leads the Flyers with 212 hits; Brayden Schenn is second with 159.
