Five things to know today about the Flyers

Five things to know about the surging Flyers (15-10-3) as they host Edmonton (14-10-4) on Thursday night:

1. The Flyers are trying to win their seventh straight, which they haven't done since 2011. The last time they won eight in a row was 2002.

2. Steve Mason, who made 42 saves and stole a 3-2 overtime win over Florida on Tuesday, will make his 12th start in the last 13 games.

3. Darnell Nurse (Donovan McNabb's nephew) is one of the many Oilers defensemen sidelined by an injury. Defenseman Dillon Simpson, a fourth-round draft pick in 2011, is likely to make his NHL debut tonight for Edmonton, which has lost five of its last seven games.

4. Wayne Simmonds has five goals during the Flyers' six-game winning streak, including four in the last two contests. He leads the NHL with eight power-play goals.

5. The Flyers will have their hands full trying to contain the now-you-see-him-now-you-don't Connor McDavid. The 19-year-old center leads the NHL with 36 points but has won just 43.1 percent of his face-offs.
