5 things to know about the Flyers today as they face Colorado

Five things to know today about the streaking Flyers (18-10-3) as they face the Avalanche (11-15-1) in Colorado on Wednesday at 10 p.m.

1. The Flyers will try to extend their winning streak to 10, which would equal their longest since 1985. They will face a Colorado team that is just 4-8-1 at home and has lost its last five games at the Pepsi Center.

2. Colorado has struggled in most areas. The Avs are 27th in scoring (2.22 goals per game), 28th in goals allowed (3.15 per game), 24th on the penalty kill (79.2 percent success rate), and 15th on the power play (17.6 percent).

The Flyers are fourth in scoring (3.14 per game), 25th in goals allowed (2.97; finally below 3.00), second on the power play (24.1 percent), and 15th on the PK (81.7 percent).

3. Steve Mason has a 7-7-3 record, a 2.99 goals-against average and a .905 save percentage in his career against Colorado. He should be refreshed. He hasn't played since Saturday and he was the backup as Anthony Stolarz blanked Detroit in overtime, 1-0, on Sunday.

Mason oppose a Colorado team that has won two of its last three games, sandwiched around a 10-1 loss to Montreal.

4. Jake Voracek has led the way with 15 points during the nine-game winning streak. Claude Giroux (11 points) and Wayne Simmonds (nine points, including five goals) have also been key contributors, and Brayden Schenn has a total of four goals and game-winning tallies in the last two games.

5. During the streak, the Flyers have outscored their opponents, 32-19, and have gone 9 for 42 on the power play, while foes have gone 4 for 25. The Flyers have scored first in just three of the nine games during the streak.
