Neuvirth starting again for Flyers; Gagner back in lineup

Michal Neuvirth will make his third straight start when the Flyers try to end a six-game losing streak Saturday night in Winnipeg.

WINNIPEG, Manitoba - Backup goalie Michal Neuvirth will make his third straight start when the Flyers try to end a six-game losing streak Saturday night in Winnipeg.

It will be Neuvirth's seventh start in the team's 14 games; some of those starts occurred because Steve Mason was going through some personal family issues.

Neuvirth is 2-2-1 with a 2.10 goals-against average and .938 save percentage.

Offensive doldrums. The Flyers are averaging just 1.85 goals per game, 29th in the 30-team NHL. They are 0-3-1 on their five-game trip, which ends tonight.

Hectic schedule. Saturday will mark the Flyers' seventh game in 12 days, including a pair of back-to-back contests.

After facing the Jets, the Flyers will play four of their next five games at the Wells Fargo Center, where they are 3-2-1.

History lesson. Last season, the Flyers swept Winnipeg for the first time since 2008-09, when the franchise was in Atlanta. The Flyers have won three straight against the Jets.

In last year's 4-3 OT win in Winnipeg, Vinny Lecavalier scored two third-period goals. Jake Voracek had two goals, including the game-winner 10 seconds into overtime, giving goalie Rob Zepp the win in his NHL debut.

Gagner in lineup. Winger Sam Gagner will be on the third line Saturday, replacing Lecavalier.

Gagner has been yanked in and out of the lineup _ he has been a healthy scratch three times _ and says it has been difficult to find a rhythm. He has five points in 10 games and is plus-2.

"I feel like I've played well when I've gotten the opportunity. I've helped the team win games," he said. "I want to obviously do that every night. It's going to continue to be my thought process _ when I get the chance, I have to help the team win."

Lecavalier committed a turnover that led to a Calgary goal in the Flames' 2-1 OT win on Thursday.

Giroux No. 1. Claude Giroux leads the NHL with a 60.6 percent success rate in faceoffs, tops in the NHL.

Shooting woes. The Flyers are averaging just one goal every 17.1 shots, which is ahead of only Anaheim (one goal every 21.4 shots). The league average: one goal every 11.6 shots.

Breakaways. Winnipeg's Dustin Byfulien has 13 points (5-8) in 16 career games vs. the Flyers….The Flyers have been outscored, 39-24. That minus-15 differential is third-worst in the NHL. Only Columbus (minus-19) and Calgary (minus-24) have higher differentials…..The Flyers' power play is 0 for 16 in the last seven games….Mark Streit and Giroux lead the Flyers with seven points, and Chris VandeVelde and R.J. Umberger top the club with a plus-3 ratings.
