Meet the Philadelphia Eagles' 2014 draft class, with a full draft weekend recap

The Eagles came into the 2014 draft with six draft picks, and came out with seven players. Along the way the Eagles did a whole lot of wheeling and dealing. Here's what happened over the course of draft weekend.

• With the Eagles on the clock at 22, a bidding war between the Browns and Vikings developed, with the Browns bringing the best offer. The Eagles traded back to 26th overall, and picked up one of the Browns' 3rd round picks (83rd overall) in the process.

• When the Eagles were on the clock at 26, the Eagles considered trading back once again, but ultimately they decided against it, and selected Louisville OLB Marcus Smith. Smith is a very athletic and complete 3-4 OLB, who can rush the passer, cover, and play the run. The Eagles will likely find a smaller role for him in their defense his rookie season with the hope that he can take over as a starter in 2015.

• Howie Roseman explained how the first round developed, and how the Eagles ultimately ended up with Smith.

• On Day 2, the Eagles' next pick in the second round was at 54th overall. The Eagles, however, did not want to wait around and risk losing their guy. They traded up to 42nd overall with the Tennessee Titans. They had to give up their 2nd round pick and 4th round pick (122nd overall) to do so. They then selected Vanderbilt WR Jordan Matthews with the pick. Here's an in-depth analysis of what Matthews brings to the table.

• Later in the night on Day 2, the Eagles were on the clock at 83, which was the pick they acquired from the Browns in the first round. When the Houston Texans came calling, the Eagles decided to trade back again. The Texans gave the Eagles their 4th round pick (101st overall) and 5th round pick (141st overall) to move up. In other words, the Eagles parlayed their 22nd overall pick into the 26th, 101st, and 141st overall picks.

• Three selections later at 86th overall, the Eagles were up once again. They selected one of Chip Kelly's old Oregon players, WR Josh Huff. An in-depth analysis of Huff can be found here.

• Day 3 began with the Eagles leading things off. They had the first pick in the 4th round, which they had previously acquired from the Texans. They selected defensive back Jaylen Watkins out of Florida. Watkins can play either CB or safety, which is the kind of versatility the Eagles seem to value in Billy Davis' defense.

• During the 4th round of the draft, the Eagles and Bills were able to agree to a deal that will send Bryce Brown to Buffalo. The Eagles received a conditional 4th round pick in 2015 for Brown, the details of which are complicated. The Bills and Eagles also swapped 7th round picks. The Eagles got the 224th overall pick, while the Bills received the Eagles' 237th overall pick.

• With the first pick in the 5th round, the Eagles selected yet another Oregon Duck, DE Taylor Hart, bringing their former Duck total on their roster to seven. Hart, at 6'6, 281 pounds, certainly fits Chip Kelly's "bigger people beat up little people" mantra. The Eagles really only have Fletcher Cox, Cedric Thornton, and Vinny Curry as locks to make the team at the DE position. Hart serve as depth along the defensive line. His selection also closed the book on the Eagles' trade out of the first round. With the 22nd overall pick, the Eagles essentially got Marcus Smith, Jaylen Watkins, and Taylor Hart.

• Later in the 5th round, with the 162nd overall pick, the Eagles selected Stanford safety Ed Reynolds. Safety may be the Eagles' weakest position overall, and Reynolds will add some depth there.

• And finally, with their last pick, which they acquired from the Bills at 224th overall, the Eagles selected NT Beau Allen out of Wisconsin. Beau is a beaut, and he loves America.
