LeSean McCoy on injured thumb: "It definitely hurts"

A few plays before LeSean McCoy took a screen pass 22 yards into the end zone, his right thumb collided with a helmet. He continued playing, but the injury was serious enough to warrant McCoy leaving the field for X-rays. They were negative, although McCoy did not return to the game.

"A helmet hit it," McCoy said. "It definitely hurts. But there have been times I've been banged up and it turns out fine. We'll see what happens."

McCoy did not think the injury will affect his readiness for the season. Coach Chip Kelly spoke to McCoy on the sideline and sounded unconcerned about the injury.

"He seemed to be in good spirits," Kelly said. "I don't think it's a big deal."

McCoy finished with four carries for 24 yards. He also had two catches for 26 yards and a score. If Thursday was his final game of the preseason, then McCoy enters the season with 11 carries for 43 yards and four catches for 34 yards during three games.

"I feel like I've got a lot of work to do," McCoy said. "Feel quick but my legs feel little heavy. It's still early. Need some time be more effective and get in the work mode I need to be effective this year… I feel good though."
