LeSean McCoy on DeSean Jackson: "If you can't buy in, anything's possible"

LeSean McCoy realized the vulnerability of NFL players after DeSean Jackson's release, and the lesson he learned is that a player's value to a team goes beyond production.

"No matter how good a player is, it's a team, and if you can't buy in, anything's possible," McCoy said Wednesday, expounding on comments he made to NFL.com about Jackson's release.

The Eagles have said the decision to part with Jackson was motivated by football reasons and was about re-configuring the wide receiver position. But McCoy, whose status in the league and on the team allows him to be honest, interpreted the release as whether a player will "buy in" to a system.

"I'm not sure what the rest of the team, they took out of it. I was speaking for myself," McCoy said. "A player like that who had done so much for my franchise, even in the year that Chip was here, the stuff he did. Some players, some teams, might think he's producing on the field, that's the only thing that matters. Small things I take out of everything, and that was what I took out of that."

Jackson had 82 catches for 1,332 yards and nine touchdowns last season, his only one under Kelly. He made his third Pro Bowl. McCoy said Jackson's release did not change the way he operates, because he believes he does not do anything that would create issues with the team.

"I like to do things the right way any way, just in general," McCoy said. "I don't think it changed too much. It's the small things that you think no one really cares about. But in reality, they do. I try to, I think, take care of the small things, small details, and just do your work, and have fun doing it, and do it to the best of my capability."
