Grocery shopping: 5 college players to watch today who could be Eagles draft targets

As long as you're taking in some college football today, here are some players who could make some sense for the Eagles in next year's draft.

The college football slate is looooaaaaded with great games today, and unlike other weeks, the great games are spread out over the course of the day, as opposed to being lumped into the same time slot. As long as you're taking in some college football today, here are some players who could make some sense for the Eagles in next year's draft.

Benardrick McKinney, LB, Mississippi State (6’4, 245): (6) Texas A&M at (12) Mississippi State, 12pm

Like Randy Gregory, who we'll profile below, McKinney is a long, athletic freak of nature. McKinney can play ILB or OLB, which is obviously something that has become a plus in Billy Davis' system. Watch Mississippi State line him up all over the field today, and watch him make plays.

Landon Collins, S, Alabama (6'0, 215): (3) Alabama at (11) Ole Miss, 3:30pm

Collins is regarded as a likely first round pick who can run, tackle, and make plays. Malcolm Jenkins has solidified (and then some) one of the spots on the back end of the Eagles' secondary. While Nate Allen has become a serviceable starting safety, that is a spot the Eagles should be looking to upgrade, especially with Earl Wolff seemingly always dealing with injuries.

Watch this one-handed INT vs Florida:

La’El Collins, OT, LSU (6'5, 315): (15) LSU at (5) Auburn, 7pm

Collins is LSU's left tackle, although some people believe that he could be a better fit at guard at the next level, which is where he played his freshman and sophomore years. The Eagles value versatility from their offensive linemen, and Collins certainly has that. And obviously, the Eagles are getting long in the tooth at guard with Evan Mathis turning 33 in November and Todd Herremans turning 32 in a couple weeks.

Ameer Abdullah, RB, Nebraska (5'9, 195): (19) Nebraska at (10) Michigan State, 8pm

Ameer Abdullah is having himself a season:

In the one game he didn't put up bigtime yardage, he did this:

The Eagles' run game has struggled this season, and while nobody is ready to start talking about replacing Shady McCoy, there are a lot of really talented running backs likely to come out this year, and the Eagles could be tempted to grab one at the right value.

Randy Gregory, OLB, Nebraska (6'6, 245): (19) Nebraska at (10) Michigan State, 8pm

Randy Gregory is a big, athletic freak of nature and a potential top 10 pick, which means that a lot would have to go wrong with either Gregory's or the Eagles' season for the Birds to have a shot at him. But for the sake of being thorough, let's just go ahead and take a look anyway. The following three gifs (made from videos on DraftBreakdown.com) are from Gregory's game vs Miami this season.

Look at Gregory's bull rush, and the take-down of the QB with one arm.

Here he is hurdling a running back and getting to the QB:

And here he is with an inside-outside speed rush, and strip sack:

However, the area of concern I would have with Gregory is his motor. If you watch the below game against Miami, you see a different player in the second half than you do in the first. He looks gassed. The Eagles faced the most snaps on defense in the league last year, and they'll likely face the most this year as well. Stamina is an important trait if you're going to play every down in the Eagles defense.
