Eagles training camp 2013: What they're saying after the first practice at the Linc

Yesterday, the Eagles took to the Linc for the first padded practice of Training Camp. Here is what the local and national media are saying.

Yesterday, the Eagles took to Lincoln Financial Field for the first padded practice of Training Camp. Here is what they're saying...

Riley Cooper: Next up after Maclin's injury? - Jeff McLane, Inquirer

When Jeremy Maclin tore his ACL on Saturday, Riley Cooper said that he didn't have to be told he was the next wide receiver up.

"It was just kind of understood," Cooper said.

Jeff also has the unofficial QB rep count:

Not much action today but my unofficial snap counts at QB: Foles 16 total, 8 1st team; Vick 14 total, 8 1st; Barkley 7 3d team; Dixon 5 3d.

Here's 6 seconds of Donovan McNabb getting a huge ovation from Philly crowd - Enrico Campitelli, 700 Level

Pretty much what the title says.

Tale of a boy and his hero - Paul Domowitch, Daily News

A woman sent Domo an email a few months ago about an experience she had with Donovan McNabb, which he posted, verbatim.

Running Daily: Eagles Practice Observations - Sheil Kapadia, Birds 24/7

1:54 – The Eagles run what initially seems like a read-option play, but instead of taking off, Vick unleashes a pass to McCoy, who is out wide.

In nickel, the Eagles go with Fletcher Cox, Bennie Logan, Trent Cole and Connor Barwin up front. Later, Cedric Thornton rotates in for Logan.

Foles looks for Ifeanyi Momah deep down the right sideline, but Lindley is all over him. The Eagles raved about Momah's speed, but I haven't seen him separate much from corners on deep balls.

Another quick note from Sheil that I found surprising, and maybe even a little depressing:

Note on Linc Lumberton I couldn't believe: Vick has highest QB rating (87.8) in Eagles' franchise history (min. 500 att.).

For the record, I think Sheil meant "Jumbotron," not "Lumberton." Sheil must type "Lumberton" a lot for his phone to autocorrect to it.

Training camp notes and quotes: 7/28/13 - Brandon Lee Gowton, Bleeding Green Nation

The quarterbacks didn't look too sharp today. I didn't notice anything great out of Vick or Foles. I feel like Barkley throws short passes often. Dennis Dixon threw a deep beauty of a pass to DeSean Jackson who burned Bradley Fletcher for a TD.

Eagles notes:Donovan McNabb set to retire as an Eagle - Zach Berman, Inquirer

Donovan McNabb will formally retire as an Eagle on Monday. The former Eagles quarterback will be honored at a news conference with owner Jeffrey Lurie.

Also from Zach:

Eagles president Don Smolenski said that 30,000 fans attended the first open practice. Fans had reserved 65,000 tickets, but there was a threat of rain and the tickets were free, so it was not certain the stadium would be full.

Jimmy Note: When you have 30,000 fans show up to a practice, that's impressive. I mean, we talkin' 'bout practice. Not a game. Practice.

Interesting note within a piece by Martin Frank of the News Journal:

Miami Heat coach Erik Spoelstra watched practice from the sideline. Spoelstra grew up in Oregon and has become good friends with Chip Kelly. And no, he wasn't in town to interview for the vacant Sixers coaching job.

One of my readers, a track coach by the name of Ryan Highlands, used his prowess with the stopwatch to time each of the QB's throws during 7-on-7 and 11-on-11 sessions, and he sent me his results from yesterday's practice.

My very amateur analysis came up with, for the whole day, Barkley from snap to release was around 2.5 seconds, Foles was 2.8 and Vick was 3.1.

Thanks Ryan!
