Eagles to carry $7.933 million from 2016 to 2017 in added salary cap space

The Eagles will carry $7.933 million from 2016 into the 2017 league year, according to the NFLPA, giving them additional salary cap space. The money is similar to rollover minutes on a cell phone plan -- it was unused in 2016, so it's added to the Eagles' cap space in 2017.

The salary cap has not yet been established for 2017, so it is unknown how much cap space the Eagles will  have. In December, ESPN projected that the 2017 salary cap would be between $163 million and $165 million. The Eagles have about $168.7 mllion in salary liabilities that will count against the cap in 2017, according to overthecap.com.  So even with the $7.933 million rolled over from last season, the Eagles will be tight on cap space.

Of course, they're expected to open up space by releasing, trading, or restructuring contracts of expensive veterans. Left tackle Jason Peters, defensive end Connor Barwin, running back Ryan Mathews, center Jason Kelce, cornerback Leodis McKelvin, and linebacker Mychal Kendricks are among the players with expensive contracts on whom the Eagles must make decisions in the coming weeks.
