The Eagles brought back offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde on Tuesday and released veteran lineman Wade Smith.

The Eagles brought back offensive lineman Julian Vandervelde on Tuesday and released veteran lineman Wade Smith.

Vandervelde, 27, reached an injury settlement with the team in August because of a back injury. He has spent parts of three seasons with the Eagles, including all of last season as the team's backup center. He has played 15 regular-season games with the Eagles.

Vandervelde, who is 6-foot-2 and 300 pounds, is able to play both center and guard. His experience in Kelly's offense is an asset. Smith signed after Evan Mathis' injury, but did not have training camp or the preseason with the team.

The Eagles are still down Evan Mathis and Jason Kelce until November. Once Mathis is eligible to be activated, the Eagles must make another roster move.
