Eagles sign former New England Patriots defensive end Chris Long

The Eagles are expected to sign Chris Long to a one-year deal, according to NFL Network. Long confirmed the news on Twitter.

The Eagles have signed former New England Patriots defensive end Chris Long to a two-year contract.

Long, 32, won the Super Bowl with the Patriots last season and finished with four sacks.

He spent the previous eight years with the St. Louis Rams, who drafted him with the No. 2 overall pick out of Virginia in 2008. In nine NFL seasons, he has 58.5 sacks.

At 6-foot-3 and 270 pounds, Long provides rotational depth to the Eagles' defensive line and will also be a valuable veteran in the locker room.

The Eagles are expected to start Brandon Graham and Vinny Curry at defensive end, with Steven Means and Marcus Smith returning as backups. The Eagles also could seek edge-rusher help in the draft.
