The Eagles released wide receiver Arrelious Benn on Friday.

The team did not offer an explanation for the move, but Benn is slated to earn $1.1 million in base salary next season and the Eagles could be looking to bring him back at a lower figure.

Benn (6-2, 220) missed all of last season after he tore his ACL in training camp. The Eagles acquired him and a 2013 seventh-round draft pick from the Buccaneers in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

The 25-year-old receiver caught 59 passes for 862 yards and five touchdowns in three injury-marred seasons with the Bucs. Benn was expected to also contribute on special teams for the Eagles.

The Eagles drafted two wide receivers last week, selecting Vanderbilt's Jordan Matthews in the second round and Oregon's Josh Huff in the third. With both rookies expected to make the roster, along with starters Jeremy Maclin and Riley Cooper, there could be only one or two other receiver spots on the 53-man roster.

Benn was expected to contend with Brad Smith, Jeff Maehl, Damaris Johnson for the last few spots. Ifeanyi Momah, Will Murphy, B.J. Cunningham, Quron Pratt and undrafted rookie Kadron Boone are also on the current 90-man roster.
