Eagles interview Texans' Gaine on Sunday

The Eagles interviewed Brian Gaine, the Texans' director of pro personnel, for their executive personnel vacancy on Sunday, an NFL source said.

Gaine is just the latest scout to meet with Chip Kelly as the Eagles cast a wide net in their search for the coach's second-in-command in personnel. Jaguars director of pro personnel Chris Polian interviewed with the Eagles last week.

The Eagles have not been commenting during the search and it is unclear if there have been other interviews.

They approached the Chiefs about meeting with director of pro personnel Chris Ballard last week, but he declined. There was reported interest in Packers vice president of player personnel Eliot Wolff but he is unlikely to be granted the opportunity to interview with the Eagles.

Seahawks director of college scouting Scott Fitterer is also on the Eagles' radar. They requested an interview, according to an ESPN report. They also requested to meet with Dolphins director of college scouting Chris Grier, per ESPN.

Gaine interviewed for the Bears' general manager opening earlier this month. He met with the New Jets for their GM vacancy two years ago and was mentioned as a candidate for the same post this year, but he never interviewed. The Saints' Ryan Pace got the Bears job and Texans director of college scouting Mike Maccagnan is reportedly set to take the Jets job.

Gaine has been in Houston for one year and has apparently become a close ally of coach Bill O'Brien. He was previously the Dolphins assistant GM under Jeff Ireland. He followed Ireland from Dallas where he worked as a Cowboys scout for several years and had the opportunity to work with coach Bill Parcells.

He spent his first six years in the NFL in the Jets' scouting department.

Gaine played tight end at Maine and was on a few NFL practice squads before ending his playing career.
