Eagles-Vikings playing time analysis

Here's a breakdown of who played how many snaps and why in the Eagles' 21-10 win over the Minnesota Vikings:

QUARTERBACK

Carson Wentz: 58 offensive snaps, 100%

Even if Wentz's performance was inconsistent, he has remained healthy and on the field for every offensive snap. Wentz was not sacked Sunday and was hit only twice, so the offensive line helped him stay clean. The turnovers were an issue and the dropped snaps must be fixed, but he'll continue taking every snap for the Eagles.

OFFENSIVE LINE

Halapoulivaati Vaitai: 58, 100%

Allen Barbre: 58, 100%

Jason Kelce: 58, 100%

Brandon Brooks: 53, 91%

Jason Peters: 43, 74%

Matt Tobin: 20, 34%

Stefen Wisniewski: 5, 9%

The Eagles stuck with Vaitai at right tackle, and he played better in his second start. They needed replacements at right guard and left tackle. Brandon Brooks left the game for five plays because of an ankle injury, which was why Wisniewski played. Tobin replaced Jason Peters for 15 snaps while Peters dealt with a biceps injury, and he also lined up five times as an extra tight end. Both Brooks and Peters will be fine for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.

RUNNING BACKS

Darren Sproles: 26, 45%

Ryan Mathews: 26, 45%

Wendell Smallwood: 5, 9%

Kenjon Barner: 3, 5%

Sproles and Mathews took an equal number of snaps, but Mathews was featured in the running game more than Sproles. Mathews had 14 carries, with Sproles carrying three times. Smallwood took a handoff on four of his five plays. Even though Mathews fumbled late in the game, his role will not be reduced. Coach Doug Pederson said the Eagles will maintain a committee at running back.

WIDE RECEIVERS

Jordan Matthews: 45, 78%

Nelson Agholor: 43, 74%

Dorial Green-Beckham: 28, 48%

Josh Huff: 20, 34%

Green-Beckham's playing time went down this week with the Eagles playing more two-receiver sets. He was targeted four times and made two catches, including a touchdown. Huff's 20 snaps included four catches – a team high – and he matched Jordan Matthews for the team lead with four targets.

TIGHT ENDS

Zach Ertz: 48, 83%

Brent Celek: 28, 48%

Trey Burton: 13, 22%

The Eagles increased Celek's usage rate because of the run-pass options in the gameplan. They wanted his versatility as a blocker and as a receiver. Ertz continues to get significant playing time with limited production – he had only three targets and one catch.

DEFENSIVE LINE

Brandon Graham: 57 defensive snaps, 75%

Fletcher Cox: 54, 71%

Beau Allen: 51, 67%

Connor Barwin: 49, 64%

Vinny Curry: 41, 54%

Destiny Vaeao: 30, 39%

Marcus Smith: 18, 24%

Steven Means: 5, 7%

Just as Jim Schwartz said last week, Barwin's playing time went down this week. However, his production improved, and he had perhaps his best game of the season. There was more of a balance among Graham, Barwin, and Curry – look for that to continue going forward. Allen's workload received the expected bump with Bennie Logan out of the lineup, and Vaeao moved up to the No. 3 defensive tackle. With Logan out of the lineup, Means was active. He recorded a sack, and both Means and Smith were productive as depth defensive ends.

LINEBACKERS

Jordan Hicks: 76, 100%

Mychal Kendricks: 24, 32%

Stephen Tulloch: 5, 7%

The Eagles are no longer rotating at linebacker. Bradham and Hicks don't come off the field, playing in base and nickel. It served them well on Sunday, too. Kendricks had his best game of the season playing in base defense, and he could see more time this week if the Eagles are on the field more in base against Dallas. Tulloch plays in short-yardage situation and will continue to fill that role.

DEFENSIVE BACKS

Nolan Carroll: 75, 99%

Rodney McLeod: 75, 99%

Jaylen Watkins: 46, 61%

Leodis McKelvin: 44, 58%

Jalen Mills: 27, 36%

Ron Brooks: 7, 9%

Brooks exited the game in the first quarter with a ruptured quadriceps  tendon that will end his season. After Brooks exited, Jenkins played the slot in nickel situations and Watkins served as an extra safety. Look for that to continue going forward. McKelvin and Mills appeared to split snaps in McKelvin's return from a hamstring injury.
