Curry inactive for Birds

The Eagles inactives included one mild surprise, second-year defensive lineman Vinny Curry, who made plays in the preseason.

The inactive list for tonight's season opener includes defensive lineman Vinny Curry, a second round pick in 2012 who made a lot of plays in the preseason. But the Eagles have seven players for their three defensive line spots, and Curry is widely viewed as more suitable for a one-gap, 4-3 front, not what the Eagles want to run.

The Redskins, meanwhile, are without starting safety Brandon Meriwether, inactive after having been listed as questionable with a groin injury.

The other Eagles inactives are QB Matt Barkley, OT Matt Tobin, TE Emil Igwenagu, OT Dennis Kelly, who is sidelined with a back injury, and CB Shaun Prater.

Washington deactivated two of its four quarterbacks, Rex Grossman and Pat White. That leaves the Redskins with only Kirk Cousins behind starter Robert Griffin III.
