Eagles head coach Chip Kelly says LeSean McCoy is healthy

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said the issue with the Eagles' running game is blocking, not the health of LeSean McCoy, who raised questions with something he said after Sunday's loss.

Eagles coach Chip Kelly said Monday that LeSean McCoy is healthy, is not being treated by the team's medical staff for anything, including the toe injury McCoy suffered in the preseason.

The issue became more prominent Sunday evening, when McCoy answered a question about whether he is healthy by saying it didn't matter, he still had to get the job done.

McCoy, the NFL's defending rushing champion, has 192 yards rushing this season on 70 carries, just 2.7 yards per carry. Sunday he gained 17 yards on 10 carries against San Francisco, after netting just 22 yards on 19 carries the week before, against Washington. Early in that game, McCoy took a hit to the helmet and was evaluated for a possible concussion.

Kelly said the problem isn't McCoy, it's a makeshift offensive line that has been missing three starters since center Jason Kelce went down against Washington.

"Not that I'm aware of," Kelly said, when asked if something's hindering McCoy. "He's not on the treatment list. He does normal maintenance like everybody else, but he hasn't had any injuries. We haven't done anything with him."

The return of right tackle Lane Johnson from  a four-game banned substance suspension might restore some bounce to McCoy's runs. Kelly said he saw Johnson briefly Monday upon his return to the team's practice facility. He said Johnson had to meet with the training staff to determine "where he is -- we haven't seen him for a month."

Presumably, Johnson will start at right tackle this week against the Rams, with Todd Herremans moving back inside to guard.

Kelly said McCoy and the entire offensive unit is pressing, trying too hard to make up for the players who are missing.

"When people are out at certain positions, other guys maybe try to overcompensate at times. I think that's kind of a natural feeling for everybody," Kelly said. "Everybody's got to settle down, get back to playing football."

Kelly said he didn't know if linebacker Mychal Kendricks, who has missed the last two games with a calf strain, will practice or play this week.
