Chip Kelly on comebacks, Cody Parkey, Nick Foles, and more
Some highlights from Chip Kelly's news conference following a 30-27 win...
**The Eagles have now had two second-half comebacks to open the season. Kelly said that speaks to this group which he called "as hard-of-a-working team as I've ever been around." In the fourth quarter, Kelly said the players believed they would win on the sideline, were not tired, and compared it "Period 22" of practice. But Kelly also said the Eagles cannot survive playing this brand of football.
"The one thing about this team is they're really grounded, and it just means we're 2-0," Kelly said. " And it also means we have to execute better on both sides of the ball in the first half. You're not going to make a living being 17 down in this league. …Hopefully we got it out of our system."
**Darren Sproles continues to impress. Sproles had seven catches for 152 yards, plus 26 rushing yards and a score. Kelly teased himself when he said that the team views him "first and foremost" as a receiver, because Kelly keeps talking about Sproles as a rusher. The reality is he's an all-around threat -- and there will be more the Eagles learn and show as the season progressed.
"He can run it, he can catch it, and he's really a dynamic football player," Kelly said. {He came up huge for us tonight."
**Cody Parkey missed a 38-yard field goal before hitting a 36-yard game winner. Parkey made 3 of 4 field goals and is 6 of 7 on the season. Kelly said he was unconcerned after Parkey's first miss.
"He really doesn't get phased," Kelly said. "There wasn't a conversation. There's no reason to have a conversation. He always gets up. I didn't have to say anything mystical to him."
**Nick Foles finished 21 of 37 for 331 yards, with one touchdown and one interception. It was not a pristine performance, but Foles helped the Eagles to another win.
"I thought Nick was just like the whole team, had a lot of resiliency," Kelly said. "They had a few drops on him. He could have placed the ball better a couple of times. I thought everybody kind of settled down. When we needed it, he did it."
**Kelly complimented left guard Dennis Kelly and right tackle Andrew Gardner, who both started on Monday.
"I thought they did a nice job," Kelly said. "First start for those guys. …they held up pretty well for us."
**Kelly did not address injuries, but linebacker Mychal Kendricks said he had a spasm in his calf and he will be OK. Kendricks left the game in the second half and was replaced by Casey Matthews.
