Eagles quarterback Nick Foles was the honorary captain for the Soul’s home opener on Saturday at the Wells Fargo Center. Naturally, the 25-year-old was asked about the release of DeSean Jackson.

"You know, it's surprising," Foles said to CSN Philly's Derrick Gunn. "But at the same time, you learn that it's a business. It's a tough business, at times. We develop a lot of friendships on a team and I've had many of my close teammates let go.”

The Eagles cut ties with their Pro Bowl receiver on March 28. Soon, a report surfaced that Jackson was disruptive and disliked in the Eagles' locker room. But Foles only spoke positively about his former teammate.

"[DeSean] was a great teammate to me," the Eagles quarterback told Gunn. "We had a great relationship on and off the field. Everybody has other things going on, but to me personally, I really enjoyed playing with him and I'm excited that he landed on his feet. He's a heck of a player."

Foles' comments come a little more than a week after LeSean McCoy spoke out in support of DeSean during a conversation with Les Bowen of the Daily News

The Eagles will face Jackson twice a year after the Washington Redskins scooped up the wide receiver. Still, Foles is happy for his former teammate.

"He's a great player, he's been tremendous for me. But at the same time, we have to keep moving forward as an organization,” he said. “But I do wish DeSean well. I had a blast playing with him."
