Former Owl loses his bout with cancer


Lafton Thompson, who played safety at Temple from 1999-02, passed away Monday afternoon following a two-and-a-half-year battle with cancer. He was 34.

Thompson finished his career with 183 tackles and five interceptions in 41 games played as a four-year letterwinner. He enrolled at Temple after spending a year at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia.

Prior to attending prep school, Thompson was football and basketball standout at Norristown High School.

He is survived by two children, Kendall (eight) and Lance (two). Funeral arrangements are pending, according to Temple's press release. However, donations are being accepted by the Lafton Thompson Foundation at 416 East Marshall Street, Norristown, Pa. 19401.
