Temple University has hired former Owl Aaron McKie as an assistant men’s basketball coach.
Inducted into the Temple Basketball Hall of Fame in 2011, McKie, who is presently working for Comcast SportsNet as an analyst on the network’s pre and postgame 76ers shows, was most recently a member of the 76ers coaching staff from 2008 to 2013. His name came up briefly in whispers as a potential coaching candidate for the Sixers shortly after the team parted ways with former coach Doug Collins last year.
Prior to that, McKie enjoyed a 13-year playing career in the NBA following an illustrious career at Temple. As a pro, McKie averaged 7.4 points, 3.3 rebounds and 2.7 assists.
The 17th overall pick by the Portland Trail Blazers in the 1994 NBA Draft, McKie’s career also included stints in Detroit, Philadelphia and Los Angeles. McKie spent eight seasons with the Sixers. A key member of the 2001 team that went to the NBA Finals, McKie was named the NBA’s top sixth man that season.
