Will the Sixers trade Iguodala?
Bob Cooney
This is one of the most frequently asked questions, so we figured we would take some elements of it here.
Although they were on the floor together for much of the end of the regular season and throughout the playoffs, it appears hard for Andre Iguodala and Evan Turner to coexist on the floor for a significant amount of minutes.
Therefore, you would expect to see Iguodala to be dealt during this offseason. But, the Sixers are so hard to play against because of their defense, and that all starts with Iguodala, so you wonder if Doug Collins wants to give up on that. The Sixers were at or near the top of the league defensively all season.
The latest rumblings comes from ESPN.com's Chris Broussard who reports the Sixers are "looking to move" Iguodala. The Warriors again have been mentioned as a possible destination in a report from the Contra Costa Times this week, and Broussard mentions the possibility of a deal with Memphis for Rudy Gay, another trade that was mentioned last year.
After a strong showing in the playoffs, Iguodala’s status might never be higher. For his part, Iguodala says he will prepare to return to the Sixers -- a better answer than he providing at the end of the playoffs last season. He has been through the trade rumors before and says he knows how it works.
But with two aching knees and a bothersome Achilles’, you have to wonder how much is left in him. He also potentially has an exhausting summer ahead of him. Iguodala is among the players who have been invited to training camp with the U.S. National Team for a spot on the Olympic team. The team begins camp during the first week in July in Las Vegas. After a weeklong camp, Team USA will take part in some exhibition games before the Olympics begin.
Right now, I would say, 60-40 he stays.
- ChuckW..i agree with most of what you typed. However, what to do with Thad? Also, i know people are going to hate my net guts but you are correct. Jrue dribbles way too much and is not all that impressive to me. I would keep turner at the PG. I would like to keep iggy at the 3 and bring in say someone like klay thompson or the morris kid from the draft to be your 6-6 SG that can actually shoot! So yes hate me for saying it but move jrue unless he is willing to come off the bench once lou walks. If you have to cut igyy ok, but it has to be for a proven NBA big who can block shots and rebound. thad will just have to step up his shot and play the starting 3 spot
Keep Iguodala. If it were me, I would look to either sign Kaman to a short-term deal if reasonable, or look into trading for one of NO's other big men. With NO likely to draft Davis, they have too many big men, Landry, Okafor or Smith should be available. Brand's expiring contract may be tempting to NO. Let Hawes and Lou Will walk in the offseason. Draft either local boy Dion Waiters or Doron Lamb, both should be around and can fill Lou's spot on the bench. Starting lineup: Jrue, ET, Iggy, Allen, and Brand/Big from NO. Allen would play center if paired with Landry, Brand, or Smith, PF if paired with Okafor or Kaman. Thad, Lamb/Waiters, and Vucevic off the bench. Llamaboy1375
Keep Iggy. Try to move Turner. Draft a big like Arnette Moultrie or Jared Sullinger. Amnesty Brand, and throw some money at Eric Gordon.
Keep Lou Will he's the only guy who can score. DaKing0325
chuckw: Help me out with this one. I've been a big ET supporter all year, saying he should be the point guard and Jrue should play the two. I still feel the same way about Jrue, but am not so sure about ET. I wonder if the Sixers would be better off sliding ET into Iggy's spot after Iggy gets traded. iceman- As I'm sure Chuck is watching Carlos Ruiz continue to shine for the Phillies, please allow me to chime in....unless DC gets hit over the head with one of his grandson's Tonka Trucks, Jrue Holiday will remain a the team's starting PG...Personally, I see ET as an able open court handler of the ball with strong court vision on the break, but he is NOT a splitter of double teams, NOR does he have the first step quickness to consistently penetrate in tighter spaces...After 2 seasons, his perimeter shot is still wanting, and although he presents some mismatches in a post up situation on the baseline and defends and rebounds really well for a guard...upgrades can be made at the off guard position....That of course leaves the Point Forward position, where he can operate his "two dribble pull up" baseline 12 footers, and slash some from the wing...I believe your last sentence is what the Sixers will initially plan for, although a more telling hint will be what the Sixers go for with their first pick...If I were ET, I would seriously continue to work on the perimeter shot, and be in supreme condition comne Fall.
bearsfriend - Bear: been watching the Phillies ace, Kyle Kendrick, who just got knocked out in the 6th. Never ceases to amaze me that owners, who have millions of dollars invested in finely tuned athletes, are willing to expose them to weather conditions like those tonight. Baseball is meant for hot clear summer nights. Cannot tell you how many of these games I have sat through over the years, but tonight watching on the telly, nice and dry. As for our neverending discussions of Turner, I love the idea of a 6:7 point guard with vision, passing, posting up, and rebounding skills, and ability to get to his spot for mid-range jumpers. Right now, I agree with your assessment, particularly DC's desire to play Holiday at the point and most likely, as iceman notes, slide Turner to the three, but I just don't think his talent translates well to the three. Double for Galvis.

Unless Sixers can "shock the world" (for those youngsters that is Ali after KO of Liston) and get Howard, Bynum or Williams, they likely will not contend for a CHAMPIONSHIP next year. This time next year Sixers would be looking at a 29.5 yr old with a lot of wear on his knees that will be looking for one more big contract.
Seems to me that it is prudent to focus on adding a couple of YOUNG VETERAN players like Ilyasova PLUS the BEST possible ROOKIE . That translates to moving Andre for a high pick or a young veteran but NOT in order to sign the likes of Kaman for example. JBP
Yes, you give up defense. But c'mon. If you want to get an impact player, you got to give to get. If the subtraction of Iggy meant nothing to this team, what he heck would you expect to get in return! mumf86
last off-season I hoped the team would keep AI unless they found a deal which improved the team and judging from the remarks made by Thorn that is exactly why Andre was not moved. I hope the same rules apply. If a move is made with AI which does not improve the team it will be a troubling sign on the order of the C-Webb deal - a desperate move by a front office trying to ward off the owner's axe. barrywil
If the Sixers can move Iggy for #7, its a no brainer. I'd take #7 and trade down to the teens and get a 2013 and a young scorer. Use the 2 2012 1sts to get maybe Moultrie and a scoring SG or SF.
I would like the team to at least try to sign Javale McGee or Brook Lopez to offer sheets, and if that doesnt work give Humphries or Ilyasova a look in FA.
If Iggy cant be moved for a pick then Ive been hearing Al Jeff is available. Hold onto Brand as deadline trade bait for an out of favor star unless amnestying him will bring a difference maker in FA. boy_wonder
Rudy Gay is the exact type of player we are lacking. What a move that would be. eaglessuperfan
Please for the LOG trade Iggy. mbutley
@bearsfriend: Good job pointing out the fact that I didn't look at the whole picture regarding Andre's passing. I guess I was too focused on the "get the most out of himself" part. To me, Iguodala has improved his passing, and has had a number of beautiful ones to cutters. I do think he was pretty good at that coming in to the league, though, although he definitely got better at it, and cutting down on the turnovers. However, HE is the guy who was ripping a teammate's(Lou Williams)flaws in a nationally published article. While Williams has flaws on D, and could be a better dribbler in traffic himself, he can be the kind of scoring force who can change the course of a game. Even if it is one quality, one skill(shooting)Williams has gotten a lot better at it since he started. He also didn't need Andre Miller around to play (offensively)at a high level; it didn't hurt, but he wasn't dependent on it like Iguodala. 76erfn- I agree that Iguodala's SI story was utter BS...whether it was talking about the Philly fans, and even more picking out Lou Will, who BTW, led the Sixers in +/- for the playoffs...by alot!

Trade Iggy straight up for LeBron, amnesty Brand and then sign Deron Williams. Build a time machine with the leftover cap room, sign Jordan to a veteran minimum, send him back in the time machine and win the title for the next 5 years. J.Bradley
