Warriors reportedly called about Iguodala

POSTED: Monday, February 21, 2011, 8:35 AM

The Golden State Warriors have inquired about a trade for the Sixers' Andre Iguodala, sources told the San Francisco Chronicle.

The sources indicate that the Warriors came up empty in their pursuit of Iguodala and a number of other players, including Danny Granger and big men such as JaVale McGee and LaMarcus Aldridge.

The NBA trading deadline is Thursday at 3 p.m. Eastern. The Sixers seem unlikely to pull off a big deal at the deadline, although they could tweak the roster for a playoff push.

The team reconvenes tonight at 6 o'clock for their first practice after the All-Star break.

What could the Sixers even get back from Golden State that would help this team?

David Lee for one. I'd like to believe Steph Curry is almost untouchable at this point.

Dorrell Wright is also having a very good year.

Bob can you do Sixers fans a favor and tell Ed Stefanski that is Portland is really interested in Speights they should trade him and the expiring contracts of Songaila and Kapono to the Blazers for Camby. Worst case scenario Camby is injured and can't perform like he used to. Best case we have an elite interior defender/rebounder that can help us defend the paint and opposing centers.

Could not agree more. Wasn't aware that Portland was that interested but if they are the deal you outlined is a win-win for the Sixers. Speights is never going to be an average defender, however he has strong upside offensively. Get rid of him while you can get something in return, as well as a few overpriced stiffs who rarely play.

I love people who think they have a clue, but don't. Do a little bit of reading - just a little - and you'll see that Camby has told Portland that he'd retire if he's traded. Here's the link: http://www.oregonlive.com/blazers/index.ssf/2011/02/trail_blazers_center_marcus_ca_2.html

Yeah just what the youthful Sixers need a 37 year old stiff whose best years are years behind him. Speights is a member of one of the strengths of this team and that is the bench.

Collins has actually made Iguodala watchable this year. Can Iggy and Turner co-exists? That remains to be seen. I'd take Camby right now and Dante Cunningham for the future from Portland for Speights and the others. The same rep Speights had at Florida continues to follow him in the NBA, he doesn't get it. Defense wins games, especially in the playoffs. I would love to see the Sixers give whomever a run for their money in the first round of the playoffs.

PhillyFan85: I've been saying for a year that Golden State Warriors are the only team that makes sense for the Sixers. The Sixers need a real shooting guard. Not a hybrid guy who can play three positions. The Warriors are the only team in the league with TWO very good shooting guards under 30: Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry.

If the Sixers can acquire one of those guys and move Turner in the small forward position, they're the third best team in the East after Miami and Orlando.

Umm....what about Boston? Surely you don't think Orlando is better than Boston? Please tell me you don't think that. Boston is the best team in the East. Quit buying the Miami hype....and Orlando isn't even as good as Chicago.

In any case, Golden State isn't giving the Sixers Ellis or Curry for Iguodala. Curry is running the point out there and they're doing just fine.

Ha, if they got one of those guys they would still be behind the Celts, Heat, Bulls, Magic, and Knicks. They might move ahead of the Hawks though.

Camby said he would retire if he is sent somewhere he doesn't want to be. If they trade Thad to Dallas then I guess getting Cunningham isn't bad. But none of that addresses they areas of need. If Camby wants to come here then cool. If not we would need a center, and a veteran back up PG.

THERE IS NO WAY IN THE WORLD I WOULD WANT 76ERS MANAGEMENT TO TRADE 11.4 MILLION DOLLARS IN EXPIRING CONTRACTS FOR A 15 YEAR PLAYER EVEN IF HE DOES AVG 11 REBOUNDS PER GAME. HE'S ALMOST 40 YEARS OLD. I'd rather use that money in free agencey. When all of these contracts expire, Kapono, Songaila, Battie, Hawes, and Young, at the end of the season we will be under the salary cap. And if they trade Iggy to Utah for Kirilenko and his 17 mil dollar expiring contract then they will have about 20 mil in free agency. I would sit on the money until the end of the 2012 season when Dwight Howard becomes a free agent and make a major run at him. If it doesn't come to fruition then we have plenty of money to add quality players and/or make trades.
