Stefanski: Hiring Jordan was 'not right' decision
Eddie Jordan was dismissed this morning after a disastrous 27-55 season, a move announced by president and general manager Ed Stefanski, whose job status also has been in question.
Stefanski: Hiring Jordan was 'not right' decision
Hours after the Sixers' worst season since 1996-97 mercifully concluded, the end officially came for coach Eddie Jordan.
Jordan's dismissal was announced this morning after a disastrous 27-55 season, with two years remaining on his contract plus an option for a fourth year.
The announcement was made by president and general manager Ed Stefanski, whose job status also has been in question.
"I met with coach Jordan this morning and relieved him of his duties as head coach of the Philadelphia 76ers," Stefanski said. "I thanked him for his hard work, professionalism and effort throughout the season. I will begin putting a list together and going through background checks and things. There is no time frame, there is no rush that I’m going to go in to hire our next head coach. We need the right direction. We need that head coach to put us on the right path and give the spark.”
“What I thought would happen did not occur, the decision was not a right one. That’s why I made the choice to go now in a different direction to get someone to get us the right path.”
Stefanski met with chairman Ed Snider and chief operating officer Peter Luukko on Tuesday afternoon, but his status has not changed. He said Snider and Luukko endorsed the coaching change. He said that was the first time he had brought up the idea of a coaching change to them, denying that the decision had been made long ago.
Asked specifically if he expected to be running the coaching search from start to finish, Stefanski said, "As I speak today, yes."
“I have had nothing but commitment from them," Stefanski said of Snider and Luukko. "As long as I am president and general manager, I am going to try to win basketball games and win a championship … I have no control over people who will judge my performance.”
More Stefanski:
“I would not agree with any statement that these guys don’t play hard. They are extremely resilient. They play hard. Sometimes when you’re not executing properly it looks like they are not playing hard. I thought there were times when we were not executing properly. The guys on this team, I don’t see them not playing hard.”
"I wouldn’t say there is not talent in that locker room. We underachieved this year … The theme we could use all year is inconsistency. We had guys who played well in spots. Guys didn’t come back from injury." Several times during the press conference he mentioned the potential of point guard Jrue Holliday, calling him a "gem." He also said Holliday will be the team's point guard of the future. He also mentioned Samuel Dalembert.
"The one thing I always felt with this team since I’ve gotten here was that defense fueled our offense. We got off to a very poor start. We talked about re-emphasizing the defensive end. We did emphasize it and our numbers, we got better statistically … We started to win some games and then we went away from that emphasis defensively and that changed."
"The qualities of the next head coach ... the qualities have to be a manager, teacher and motivator. Three qualities I would look for right away. When I got here, the players and the way we were built were built to play on the defensive end, got us out on the break and got into early offense … we emphasized that last summer but we’re going to have to emphasize that again."
On the offensive system: "Obviously, it didn’t work. We went through in the interview process all the personnel and what we had and the coach felt it would work. Because of the last two years in the playoffs, we were looking for that balance, efficiency in the halfcourt. We felt we had the defense, we felt we had the fastbreak … we needed the halfcourt system to control the game better. Obviously, it did not work."
On why the process will be different this time: "I am reviewing in my head and have been reviewing with all the paperwork we had and with the staff where we felt we did not go down the right line or didn’t ask the right questions. We asked a lot of questions, we had an exhaustive interview with all these guys. We will look at it again and see if there is anything else we can do."
On where the team stands: "We are not starting over. We took a step backward this year. ... We can get back on this path very quickly to build what we want to build."
He described the process of selecting the new coach as "wide open." He said he would consider a large range of options, from college head coaches, to NBA assistants to former head coaches.
He also said the Sixers would look at all possibilites to improve via the draft, trades, free agency.
"I realize that we have to look at every option available to us and make changes where necessary," he said. "The first two seasons we were progressing nicely and moving in the right direction. This year we took a step back. It’s unacceptable. We will rectify that. Our expectations and hopes this season were high. We did not meet them."
This guy is either delusional or simply trying to save this job. To imply that this is Jordan's fault at all is a joke. The roster is HORRIBLE and no self-respecting coach would want it. Should they have won a few more games? Yes. Would it have mattered? Not even close. The burden is WAY more on Stefanski than Jordan. gluteman
The roster is hardly horrible. Lots of good players. They just need another leader, a shooter, a committment to defense, and they'll be back to early exits from the playoffs. Leegles
unfortunately, eddie has to go--- he has made all the wrong moves, starting with brand instead of jason smith, fired cheeks, installed di leo and jordan--- wow, this is bad---how can you put brand on a running team??? larry brown will make the change anyway megmel
This roster doesn't have title contending talent, but to call it horrible is a vast overstatement. It's mostly the same talent as last year (except Holiday instead of Miller and Kapono instead of Evans). Those changes don't account for 14 games. A good coach would have made a difference and there are some young players on this roster worth waiting on. dmanns
I'll have some of whatever it is that Stefanski is drinking ! phillyjim7
Really? Maybe they made a mistake with another hire, I wonder who that could be? Anyone? CrashTestCorzine

Comment removed.- Why does each new 76ers coach have to use all the leftover former head coaches / old 76ers as their assistants?
I never watched them, not once, all year. feudi- stefanski needs to fire himself. the season was over when he let andre miller walk.
If the Sixers fell a tree in the woods would anyone, oh forget about it nobody cares about the Sixers. What was I thinking? CrashTestCorzine
the talent is not horrible. They should be a #5 seed easily. The east is full of playoff teams that are no better than the sixers in terms of talent. We have young talent that should be able to grow together and get some wins. This team is made to be out on the break getting layups and dunks. Yakov
Stefanski has to be kidding, either himself or Ed. Snider and Peter Luukko (who are clueless where basketball is concerned). Jordan was a disaster, as many of us predicted even before he was officially hired, a lifetime losing record in the NBA, a coach for whom defense is a communicable disease, a coach with a complicated offensive scheme not suited to the players and not really suited for the many fundamentally unsound freshmen and sophomores coming into the league. Yet Stefanski hired him, which says as much about him as it does about Jordan. As soon as Charlotte is bounced out of the first round of the playoffs, Snider will fire Stefanski and hire Brown as head of basketball operations and coach, a huge mistake, but one to make the season ticket holders happy in the short run. chuckw
Do us all a favor Ed.....fire yourself!!! lev3472
I wonder if Stefanski watches the same basketball team as the rest of us watch. You can blame Jordan for the younger players not developing but the Stiff man (and Billy King) built the roster. Mo Cheeks was probably the best coach for this team but he got rid of him because he wasn't "his man". Guess what, you and "your man" can hang out at the unemployment line. alihajishank
Stefanski must go, he made all the wrong decisions, starting with firing Cheeks, not convincing Tony Dileo to stay, signing Brand, Andre I, A.I.. Kapono and etc... the sixers have no future with Eddie S.... oh yeah what about the worse non move of all, not signing Andre Miller flamediddy
The coaches mean nothing in the NBA. If coacher were important than the CAVS would suck. It is a player driven league. No NBA champion has ever been from a team pulling together or going on a run. It is a superstarstar driven league, and there are really only 2 to 4 teams every year that even have half a shot to win it all. So unless the Sixers get the next kobe, Lebron, or D Wade in any upcoming draft, whoever they get to coach will mean nothing. Look at the stars from the NBA champs in the last 30 years and show me any team that won the title without a top 5 star in the league. That's what we need. An undoubtedly superstar top 5 player to carry the team. That's all you need in this league the way it is designed. Just hire a coach that doesn;t get in the way of the superstar. I donn't like it that way, but since it is that way, then we must do what we have to do. fb-omniscient
the organization is toxic, starting with peter luukko who went out and hired stefanski, the guy who took the nets from first to worst; stefanski is clueless. the scouting organization. business ops. i could go on and on. if you go to a game they're doing the same lame promos and in-game "entertainment" as 10 years ago. the whole organization needs a fresh approach. otherwise it's look putting parsely on dog poop to make it appear more appetizing. frenval
Another season since the institution of zone defense that the Sixers ONCE AGAIN start two guards who can't shoot from the perimeter. It is basic, basic basketball fundamentals that to BREAK A ZONE and OPEN UP THE MIDDLE you need guards who can shoot. We used to have Iverson and Snow and then we went with Miller and Iggie and then Iggie and whoever else they stuck at PG who could not shoot. Find me another SUCCESSFUL NBA TEAM that has started two guards who could not hit the three at over 35%. There are none. Neither Snider, Stefanski or many of the sports writers in this town understand basic math. It is very unfortunate. Grill- Stefanski is making the right call here. The challenge for the next coach will be to get the players on the same page. There is a lot of talent on the roster, and Ed has done a fine job in the draft, so far. If he can get another good young player or two, and a coach who designs a scheme around his talent, they can improve greatly by next season.
One Ed down, two more to go... coloradoeagle
Ed was horrible at Penn, couldn't coach at Bonner and lived off of Rod Thorn at New Jersey. This guy is living right to even have been hired in the NBA as anything more than sweeping floors. connery
We need lots of "NEW' pieces to fix this team...coach...players...management. Get a young big guy and let Dumbo dalember go...BLAND too...IGGIE too. Start all over with a big strong defensive center. Beg borrow or steal (trade/draft)..Snyder you know nothing about BB...just get a BB man....I used to love watching these guys years ago..now I refuse free tix to the game! That speak volumes!!! phillyfan19335
Sounds like Avery Johnson or Doug Collins time to me. phillyfandc
This is not all Jordan's fault. Come on Eddie. You hired a broken down PF, kept a lazy Center, brought back an OLD AI and brought in absolutely no one at the trade deadline. Oh, you also brought in Rodney Cr*p Carney and got rid of fan favorite, Reggie Evans. You need to go Eddie. You are a terrible GM. Ed Snider is disgracing himself keeping a loser like you and I will continue to show no loyalty to a team I once admired and respected. Big Ragu
Since he signed Brand instead of Smith I knew Stefanski had to go! Smith was younger, quicker and fit makeup of the players that were already here!! This team is built to run and gun and should do just that!! BlueLightGo
to anyone who thinks the sixers have talent, they don't. get over it. their ceiling is a first round playoff exit with the roster as it is, and it's really hard to improve in the NBA drafting at that level. the NBA is a superstar league, and the best player on the sixers would be a third banana on a championship team. as it is no one goes to the games anyway, so the organization should build around holiday and trade away as many other players for whatever assets they can find and hope for good luck in the draft this year and next--after what will surely amount to another unwatchable season. imafish17- There isn't a single NBA-caliber player on the roster. Iggy does many things with mediocrity, Brand stinks, Williams is not a PG, Green and the bunch can't play, Sam is worthless, Young and Speights have regressed. Build around Jrue. He's the only one left. Stefanski is an abomination as GM. The proof is that he hired Jordan and signed Brand. brio
- Thanks for the "revelation" about Jordan not being the right man for the job. Thank God hindsight is 20/20
They completely lack court balance. Holiday should be the guy to help them achieve that next year, however Young or Iguodala has to go. beegal99
What you need Ed, is a clue. Hugh_S
I was hoping this FOOL would announce firing Jordan and resigning his position. How is this guy still here? That's why I won't spend a dime on this team. They feel they can continue being mediocre and people will come out. ESRD nut
the sixers do have a good roster. All they need is a superstar scorer. and somebody who can drain a three consistently, then they'd be okay. And a savvy veteran point guard and a big man who can score. then they'd be on the right track. And a swing man. Maybe a solid rebounder. then they'd be on their way. Jordan had enough to work with. And they could also use a second scorer. joe from india
Kate must be thrilled!! She's been lobbying for Jordan's head all year and no doubt is gloating over today's news. Jordan deserved to go but didn't deserve the unfair coverage and biased opinion heaped on him by Kate. Her arrogance is scary - all you have to do is read the bio which announces her as 'was, until recently, the all-time leading three-pointer shooter in the University of Colorado women’s basketball program'. What goes around, comes around..... jkjchs

I knew hiring Eddie Jordan was a horrible move. 90% of people with a brain knew it was a horrible move. Stefanski didn't. Enough said. eagles84
I think Comcast Spectacor should sell the Sixers. And while they're at it, sell the Flyers as well. They're both underachievers, regardless of the Flyers current playoff run, which will end in an exit in any case. THEN, take all that money and buy the Phillies. With the revenue Comcast is generating from owning the cable industry and NBC, they can turn the Phillies into the Yankees of the National League revenue-wise, infuse their payroll with another 100 million or so, and make the World Series their own for years to come. This is a baseball town, in case you've been sleeping for the past 3 years or so. Not basketball, or hockey, or even football at this point. It's baseball. So let's make what we have even better. Let's make the Phillies the absolute dominating force of the NL, offensively, defensively, and pitching-wise! Period! Amen! Bubba100
it's amazing to me that every single fan in the city (and beyond) knew that this was a terrible decision from day one. yet the guy who runs the team didn't. how is that possible? how do you hire the coach away from another failing franchise, bring them to your failing franchise, and think he's going to succeed? tockeyhockey
and Cheeks got fired? Go Thunder notch44
Not trading Andre Miller before deadline = FAIL, giving Iguodala a contract = FAIL, not trading Iguodala/Dalembert to give yourself cap room in the future since this team isn't doing anything = fail. And i don't know why so many people voted for Avery Johnson, don't you think there's obviously something wrong with him if he hasn't been able to land a job somewhere in the past few years? Please sell this team. CallerNo9
Stefanski needs to go and Snider should sell the team to someone who cares. CA through and through- Bring back mo cheeks http://bit.ly/9MJWuN dpcoz
While they are at it, will they please finaly get rid of Willie "I'll play a pick up game the day before signing a huge long term contract, whats the worse that could happen" Green. Every year that is supposed to have a break out year. We are on year 5 of that. Its time to give up on players like Iggy and Dalembert and start over again - these guys obviously don't want to win. dr.anonymous,md
Stefanski did a great job at the beginning of his tenure in freeing up cap space. But once it got freed up, he out of the blue made a huge signing that rang of Billy King's days. It completely contrasted everything he had done before that point. I have a feeling Snider demanded a move from him, and at the time, it made a bit of sense: power forward was the Sixers' weak spot, and the best "available" was Brand, but he orally committed to LA and needed to be lured with big money. If that's what Snider wanted, that's what he got. I kind of feel like Stefanski would have preferred continuing what he was doing. However, hiring Jordan was definitely his move and was not a good one. DS17
should of never fired Mo Cheeks. With Iverson the cancer gone...Stefanski should rehire Cheeks who emphasized team defense and an up tempo offense that created off turnovers. Stefanski should be fired as well...To bring in a mediocre talent like Eddie Jordan...Stefanski needs to be held accountable. tkearney609

Stefanski is to blame 100%. Once Brand started asking for the "Philly max" it showed he was only interested in himself and not winning. Stefanski knew that during negotiations. You also do not sign Brand unless you have a team of great shooters around him. You also do not give Iqoudala $80 million when not one team even made him a free agent offer. JonKap
You play for the Sixers? Here in Philadelphia? I didn't know they still had a team. hunsinator
Well, 4 coaches in 3 seasons should tell you something about the 1 general constant -- the players. Your designated "leader" is a sulking coach-killer who is more suited as a #3 wing man than franchise player - he needs to be dealt to a contender before the cat gets too far out of the bag on this guy's tired act. The Dalembert issue has got to be resolved - deal him to any team desperate for the expiring contract, or keep the contract for yourself while telling him to go home for a year (or at least far, far away at the end of the bench) until the deal expires after 2011. His cancerous presence has to be removed at all costs. And a coach / GM with credibility and true accomplishments in the game is desperately needed for: a fresh, winning perspective; accountability in the locker room; making something of the $82-million mistake that is Elton Brand; and for grabbing hold of the young, promising guys like Thaddeus, Lou Williams. Speights, and Holiday before it's too late. Otherwise, yawn. EaglesWest
Fail! Big Bog- Maybe Snider will get hit in the head by a piece of concrete when the Spectrum is imploded. brio
Zeru77: you win best postings of the month! Right on the money about Stefanski, who MUST be fired. Unfortunately, Snider (who is giddy now with his Flyers in the playoffs and with one win under their belt) and Luukko will do the hiring, almost certainly Larry "vagabond blues" Brown, who will tell us how much he loves Ed. Snider and the Sixers, how he wants to be closer to his wife and kids, how much he also loves Michael Jordan and the Bobcats, but really, really, really, this time, wants to retire with the Sixers. In three years time, aged 73, he will then quit, buy the Los Angeles Clippers and tell everyone he has always loved the Clippers, and really, really, really, this time, wants to retire in Los Angeles. chuckw
Ed, you need more than a spark. Dynomite couldnt get some of the stiffs on that team to play good. Jordan was a HUGE mistake, but so was some of your signings. Get some players who can play. Get a coach who will coach them how to play PRO basketball, not some outdated college offense. Get some young players to grow and a coach to grow with them. The 1st priority should be to trade Dalembert. The 2nd priority should be to trade AI, and the 3rd priority should be to trade Brandt. Pat c
Three seasons ago Stefanski couldn't stop publicly patting himself on the back for trading Korver for cap space and telling Mo Cheeks to "play the young guys". Now he doesn't seem so quick to acknowledge his part in the current state of this team. Picking Jordan to be the coach is far from being his only error. This roster is his mess. riles1875
""The one thing I always felt with this team since I’ve gotten here was that defense fueled our offense."......if he really believed this, then why did he hire a coach who didn't give a darn about defense? duder
Fired Ed Stiffanski! Hire Larry Brown as Head of operations & hire Avery Johnson as head coach! ChangeISNeeded
Eddie The Shot ( and how did he get that nickname? Did he make an uncontested layup at Bonner at some point? )should quickly hire the next coaching incompetent and then focus on what should be really important to him, losing about 60 pounds and buying a good hairpiece. Please do not publish that photo again. Little kids may be reading and be half scared to death. baabyrrej
Mr. Snider would have been better off staying with DiLeo as head coach for another year until they found a more suitable one. The only thing I agreed with in Stefanski's press conference was the qualities required for the next head coach. But wait, Eddie Jordan doesn't fit those qualities at all ( not to mention, his braces annoyed the heck out of me. Couldn't he have gotten braces before his 50's ). There was too much focus on the offense and not enough on the defensive end. I'm not sure what is the answer, but I know the future ( 3-4 years ) will be bleak! Go Phillies!!! nupekase

This team was going in the right direction until Jordan came in so now that Jordan is gone we may as well give Stefanski one more chance. With all of the contracts we are locked into hiring another General manager next year isn't going to change a whole lot either way. CBent1
The Sixers are already kind of losing credibility (if that is even still possible) in the off-season... they needed the top dog to sit at the podium and announce the firing of both GM and coach, and tell us every single position is under evaluation, from top to bottom. Bring back LB, AND PAT CROCE!! KDH
Stefanski is a typical Bonner meathead. delco_guy
baabyrrej: ROTFLMAO. Humor is always essential at times like this. chuckw
The NBA as a whole is a horrible product. All I see is a bunch of one-on-one skills with everyone trying to make the ESPN highlight reel. No team game. No fundamentals. No taking care of the ball. Just sloppy play. The NBA really needs a minor league so these players can learn how to play right, and have expiring contracts (like the NFL) to get rid of people if they don't want to play 2 years into a 6 year contract. Tom98786
Then why do you bother watching it, Tom? CBent1- phillyjim7 - maybe he's drinking some of the Eagles Juice? You know, the stuff that makes you see everything in gold... Ump Al
I'm a Wizard fan here in DC, but I've been keeping up on what's been happening with EJ up here. I will admit that I was happy when EJ got fired from the Wizards, however, I think EJ has gotten a raw deal in Philly. You fans hated the hire and management handicapped Jordan when they didn't resign the driver of your offense in A. Miller. I think Miller could have won you guys an extra 5-10 games. Also, as we saw with Wizards, teams catch up with your game and pass you. It seems that you guys saw the Sixers as a playoff team, however, after this season you learned (like we did with the Wizards before the guns and the trades) that the Sixers weren't good enough to make the playoffs. However, you guys are blaming the coach when really the Sixers don't have the talent to compete. You guys will have basically the same team next year and you will learn that it's not the coach and it's time to start over. Also, the Sixers were not running the offense the Wiz ran under EJ. It look nothing like what the Wiz ran and EJ said he modified the offense a lot to fit Philly's talent. I don't think it was the offense, it's your talent. Management should have saved at least $3 million by waiting another year before getting rid of Jordan. Just my 2 cents from DC. 33dgriffin
Why are you still working here, Ed. This is typical Snider. He never wants to let go of GM's, only coaches. It's why he kept Bobby Clarke around even know he wasn't getting the job done. I hope when Ed calls the season ticket holders to renew their tickets they hang the phone up on him. Drew777- A spark? They need a hydrogen bomb.
- It's all a joke. The Jordan hire was obviously bad from day one. Which makes Stefanski a joke. Which makes Snider a joke. pgcd3

Now step down from you position, Ed, and allow someone to hire a GM and coach that knows what they are doing. Ed Stanfanski will not be hiring the next coach. Would everyone named Ed please step away from this team. 76er

Kate's coverage all season has been excellent. She tells it as it is. I appreciate that. I hope they don't recycle an old coach (Doug Collins, Avery Johnson or someone from the all boys network (Stanfanski) and hire someone from outside, an up-and-comer like Tom Thibeau, an assistant with the celtics who was in contention for the job last year. He's worked with Kobe and Ya Ming and would bring back a defensive mindset that was missig this season. 76er
This isn't all Stefanski's fault. Billy King had a LOT to do with this. seaonasdad
Is he the correct person for the job? Answer: Base on on what he's done here - no. Why doesn't Peter L. step in and let Stanfanski go before he makes this team worse? 76er
If they were going to fire Stefanski, they should have done it at the same time as Jordan. Kinda messed up that they'd have Stefanski fire Jordan and then Stefanski gets fired later. I guess the Sixers brass are waiting to see what Brown or Rivers will do and aren't ready to move yet. echosmyron
I agree with lev3472. Chairman Ed needs to step down. The Sixers are a rudder-less ship The Flyers will be lucky to win two rounds this year let alone one. WestConshy
"We need a spark", this is the best he can come up with. We need a blow torch sounds more accurate. This team needs some serious rebuilding. It has some talent but not enough to be competitive. They need to make big moves through trades, draft, and free agaency. I will not come to anymore games until this is fixed. This team only won 32% of games thats 22 games won and 55 lost. Disgusting!! knmcmahon
I was, and still am a Fast Eddy supporter....BUT I also recognize that the two or three LARGE mistakes he made over the last two years( Hiring Jordan being the biggest) have put the poor 'ol Sixers under the edge of the rug. Understand that IF there was a sure-fire, big-name, absolutely infallible coach out there...,he would already belong to somebody. But there HAS to be a decent, hard-working, motivational type NBA-quality coach willing to put up with coaching the Sixers! (With NO shot at a championship for many more years). All I want to see in the next couple of years is a return to some semblance of respectability. I want the other teams, when they come into our building to know that they have to play VERY HARD, and VERY GOOD to get a win...or we will beat THEM. And I want to go to the second level of the playoffs in two years. THAT is not a monumentally huge thing to ask. And if My Guy, fast Eddy can't produce a coach that can do that, then he will have run out HIS string, and will need to be replaced. Enough will be ENOUGH. TBear
he should absolutely be fired. At the press conference, his reasons for hiring Joordan were lame. Everyone knew Jordan's track record, espcially defensive, was herrendous. I listened him speak, my 10 year old can come up with better material (excuses) and be mre convincing. At this point "Mr. Snyder" is to blame, because he has not pulled the trigger on ED as well. He should be replacing the GM before any new coach comes to town. How do wealthy people forget what made them wealthy ... 'making good decisions' ! lerze77
Why are wright and Brown on tghe list, they both have made it cleared they are not coming to the sixers, Avery Johnson is my choice, if mnot, Pat Summit. PHILLY76
You know when you step in dogs*it...Well, as far as I'm concerned that's what Snider has done...he has to get out the caseknife nad scrap the rest of the s*it off(Stephanski)..if you can't get Brown..you have to hire Collins and get a proven NBA GM!!! sixerjones
chuckw ed snider and peter lukko are clueless at running a team in general. it doesnt matter if its basketball or hockey, both teams are mediocre. ConservativePatriot22
Billy King said, after he was fired, that for a while, he was "keeping" his job, as opposed to "doing his job". To me, it appears that Stefanski is following his lead. Stefanski needs to put down his pro-Iguodala, pro-Sammy, self-serving stat sheet, and watch the games. Iguodala and Sammy don't pass the eye test. 76erfn
I/we couldnt deal with Avery Johnson's ego. He'd be a bigger prima donna than anyone on the active roster... Id rather have Tom Thibodeau, Dwane Casey or even Dean Demopolous. Maybe Byron Scott out of the "retreads". My dragon alumni may show as I say Bruiser Flint! but those players could use his grit and intensity! Not Jay Wright though. I dont think he will translate shova
Let's go all the way to the top. You have a man who hasn't won anything in over 30 years in the sport that he is supposed to know (Ed Snyder), in owning of a team in a sport he obviously has no clue about. He hired Stefanski. You never make an ex-Clipper the face of your team. Clipper = LOSER!! Andre Iguodala max money? I guess that explains why Jerry Buss is going to the HOF and Mr. Snyder is once again searching for a new coach and returning to the lottery. ramlakerherb
Wow, AI was here about 5 games, and he still managed to get the coach fired. AI is a coach killer. Ask Mo Cheeks. Leron

33dgriffin: thanks for the imput; you may be right about the talent level of the Sixers, particularly with Andre Miller gone. Thus focus needs to fall on Billy King and Ed. So stephanski, who overpaid iggy and brand...and stephanski, who signed eddie jordan despite seemingly everyone knowing it was the wrong idea...gets to retain his job? Everyone, and I mean everyone (media, fans, experts), universally saw the jordan signing as a bad move LAST YEAR! They are now a full season behind on any kind of progress that could have already been made. Thanks stephanski - you suck! johnhenry- When Cheeks was fired the dope said the team was headed in the wrong direction. At his news conference he said the team was headed in the right direction for the past two seasons. Not one reporter chose to question that statement. I'd like to see Brian Shaw as the next coach.
- I love how people still make excuses for Jordan. It took the guy 30 games to get his rotation straight. It took him 70 games to figure out how to use Kapono. And the one guy that said this is Billy King's fault... WTF are you smoking. He created the cap space that STIFFaski squandered. He allowed that trade kicker in Dalembert's contract, thats it. Its really telling how STIFFanksi kept his face in front of the cameras when the team was playing well enough. Telling who ever would listen that he told Cheeks how to coach, thats a load of nonsense for another time. Anyway I think I saw him once this season. He is a fraud and Ed Snider bought in on his BS.

hey ed, remember when you first arrived and brought in all the exceptional basketball minds of Philadelphia in order to reestablish the 76ers as a serious basketball organization? I was so happy that day to see Sunny Hill, Speedy Morris, John Chaney, etc... and thought to myself: Wow, this has got to work. Not a week after you offended the best available coach (Avery Johnson) by not offering him an exclusive contract and brought in this bozo named Eddie Jordan with a career winning percentage of .412 I knew we were in store for a long decade...general rule of thumb: don't hire a coach who has a career win/loss % below .500, it means he is a bumb! and then came the debacle of the 76ers season...brought in a coach who runs the princeton offense that is outdated and misunderstood by the very person who is attempting to implement it...still do not have 1 half-court set...cannot isolate iggy for any scoring opportunities, mis-use/not-use young or speights effectively enough...somehow keep willie g and re-sign carney again??? webber jr. in elton who cant play a lick ne longer...and not even close talent wise for competing with the top 4 teams in the east...outlook dismal thanks ed for your impeccable insight and steadfast leadership.... mmcf1414
This season would have gone much differently had Andre Miller been resigned. SouthJerseyRob- Ed please leave just leave. I wish a old philly star own the whole team, like Michael Jordan own the Bobcats. I wish you let Aaron McKie OWN or Coach the . But I DREAM THE SIXERS LET DR. J OWN OR COACH THE TEAM AND WE BE LIKE CHARLOTTE RIGHT NOW. But no Ed has got to comeback and make the whole city angry . Ed I'm sorry but you have gort to go, we could've had Stoudimire or T-Mac. And we didn't even trade. We just traded BUMS for BUMS. Jodie got a shot I'll give you that but Fransisco should've got Cut.
- First, They let Andre Miller walk and then the city will be so scared and worried when the Phillies let Jayson Werth walk. THAT'S HOW YOU KNOW THEY WON'T MAKE IT TO THE WORLD SERIES NEXT YEAR. SO the spark the Sixers need is a coach with a strategy that will fit with the team and a GM that will make the right neccecary move or trade at the right time and won't be scared to attempt it.
Billy King set this organization back 10 years with his roster moves. Stefanski has not done himself any favors with some of his moves. The Sixers are 5 years away. Minimum. Unless they luck out in the lottery this year and get into the Top 2. Tank next year. Get another great lottery slot and sign Durant who will be a Free Agent. I can dream can't I? PaHoops
