Sixers to open season Dec. 26

The Sixers will open the season on Dec. 26 in Portland, the first of a five-game road trip to start the new 66-game schedule.

The Sixers will open the season on Dec. 26 in Portland, the first of a five-game road trip to start the new 66-game schedule.

The home opener is Jan. 6 against Detroit, a game that was on the original schedule. They follow that with three more home games – Jan. 7 against Toronto, Jan. 9 against Indiana and Jan. 10 against Sacramento.

The team must open away from home because of commitments in the Wells Fargo Center, including Disney on Ice, the Flyers and Temple-Duke basketball.

Perhaps the most difficult stretch of the season could come during 6 days in February. LeBron James and Miami comes to town on Feb. 3, followed by a road game the following night in Atlanta. The Lakers make their only visit on Feb. 6, followed by San Antonio coming to town on Feb. 8.

The  Heat comes to town twice, Feb. 3 and again on March 16 for an ESPN-televised game.

Interestingly, the Sixers do not play division rival Boston until March 7.

The team that are not coming to town this season are Portland, New Orleans, Memphis, Houston, Phoenix and Minnesota.

The Sixers have 16 sets of back-to-back games this season along with two back-to-back-to-back sessions (January 9 – 11 and April 16 – 18).

Of the Sixers final 25 games, all but one will come against an Eastern Conference opponent (Sunday, March 25 at San Antonio).
