Sixers reportedly sign Nick Young to one-year contract and are going to amnesty Elton Brand.

It appears the days of Lou Williams and Elton Brand wearing Sixers uniforms are done. And Nick Young is apparently on his way.

Sixers reportedly sign Nick Young to one-year contract and are going to amnesty Elton Brand.

POSTED: Friday, July 6, 2012, 12:15 PM

The 76ers have reportedly signed shooting guard Nick Young to a one-year contract for close to $6 million and are ready to use their amnesty clause on Elton Brand, reports say.

The signing of Young, a 6-6 shooting guard, certainly seems to indicate that Lou Williams will not be back with the team. Williams opted out of the last year of his contract with the team, worth about the same amount of Young's reported contract.

Williams seems to have confirmed that idea today when he tweeted the following:

The 27 year-old young was a first round draft pick (16th overall) of the Washington Wizards in 2007. In 62 games last season, 40 with the Wizards and 22 with the Clippers, Young shot 40.3 percent from the floor, including 103-for-282 (36.5 percent) from three-point range. He averaged 14.2 points, slightly over his career average of 11.4 points. He is a very good free throw shooter at 83 percent for his career, but his main attribute is his outside shooting.

By using the amnesty clause on Brand, the Sixers will probably use  that money ($18.2 million) on finding a veteran big man who may be able to start at the power forward position and a backup point guard. Right now Jrue Holiday is the only real point guard on the roster, though Evan Turner and Andre Iguodala could handle the ball when necessary. A true backup point guard would allow the team to not only use him when Holiday is out of the game, but move Holiday off the ball at times also.

Williams, 25, spent all of his 7 NBA seasons with the Sixers after being taken with the 45th overall pick in 2005 out of South Gwinnett High School. He led the team in scoring this past season with 14.9 points a game despite not starting a single game. For his career he has averaged 11.3 points and 3 assists.

Brand, the top overall pick by the Chicago Bulls in 1999, will turn 34 this upcoming season. He averaged a career-low 11 points this past season but was able to grab 7.2 rebounds and block 1.6 shots in 29 minutes of play.

Today's reported moves appear to be the beginning of more. Coach Doug Collins and his assistants are down in Orlando preparing for next week's summer league. President Rod Thorn is still in Philadelphia, though he will join Collins and company in Orlando on Monday.

More to come.

Now trade Iggy and the kitchen sink for Dwight Howard. Remember the city of Philadelphia when Iverson led the Sixers to the NBA finals? It was amazing. Let's get back to that status.

Dwight Howard is overrated. Dude has no O game whatsoever besides tip ins and lob pass dunks. And this year he quit on his team before his back "gave out". Additionally he has one year left on his contract and has made it ABUDANTLY clear to anyone that can read that he desires only to play for Brooklyn. Why would trade for a one year rental with all of his baggage?

This team has no leadership at all. You bring in the exact same guy as Lou Will (just taller), why not get a different type of player. Then in order to fit him into the salary you amnesty Brand, come on. Had they brought in another big to help with protecting the rim or a shooter (that actually has a conscious unlike N. Young) then I understand the amnesty but not for Young and Hawes. If they get Ilyasova I will alter my opinion but short of that this off season has been awful.

Different player, as he's a "catch and shoot guy"...Fab FT shooter, who like Lou, can get streaky and hot...This signing was a response by the Sixers as negotiatipons with Lou broke off...No invite to Young, no "wine and dine"..phone call, one year,safe..Needing the money to get Young, thus initiating the tagging of EB, it's evident the Sixers will be involved with either Ilyasova or Ryan Anderson...Note that EB's tagging came just ONE DAY AFTER ilyasova's very beatable offer came from Milwaukee.

Didn't say they were identical and I agree different method of scoring but the comparison was that they were streaky shooters who shoot poorly from the floor and don't play defense. You know that I hope you are right on Ilyasova.

Nick Young is another no defense, stand-around-b@tching-about-no-foul-call while the other team fast breaks the other way five on four. Maybe the Sixers are going for a high lottery pick next year? If so maybe this isn't a totally bad move, because N Young is not a winner.

Who would you have rather they brought in? Who's available for that kind of money on a 1 year deal? Just because the Sixers want a player does not mean there is a mutual interest. I like the signing. The Sixers have a guy that can flat out light it up at a fairly low-risk for one year in Young. They also re-signed Spencer at a fairly decent amount for just 2 years, which means he's an expiring contract at the end of this coming season. Gone are the days of the bad contracts of Billy King.
Do you want to overpay for Illyasova? He's not even an everyday starter. He's come off the bench more than he's started for the Milwaukee Bucks for God's sake. I'd much rather have Al Jefferson than a cat that hasn't even been able to establish himself as a starter on a bad team.

It's about time! I like the Nick Young pickup. Now, the Sixers need to trade Iguodala for a big, preferably Gasol or Al Jefferson. And, with the money freed up by amnestying Brand, the Sixers should sign sf/pf-Ersan Ilyasova and pg-Aaron Brooks. Projected lineup: Holiday/Brooks, Turner/N.Young, T.Young/Harkless, Ilyasova/Allen/Moultrie, and Gasol/Hawes/Vucevic. Good luck DC/Thorn!

If the Sixers get Nick Young, Ersan Ilyasova, and a backup point with Brand's $18M in cap room, it's a huge upgrade. Young's a capable replacement for Williams on a reasonable one-year deal. Ilyasova would give them a young 4 who can score and stretch the floor, creating space for Iggy, ET, and Jrue. Add a capable backup point so that an injury to Holiday doesn't cripple the team, and that's a significantly better team - particularly looking at the long-term picture - than last year's model.

As much as I liked Lou, I think this is a good move. Lou needed to dominate the ball to be effective and the roster had too many of those kinds of players. Young is more a prototypical guard/wing who can play more off the ball than Lou could. So he should fit better in the backcourt with guys like Holiday and Turner. Most importantly, it's a 1 year deal and not a 4-5 year commitment like Lou wanted. There will be a big crop of talent on the free-agent market next year and the Sixers are setting themselves up to have significant money available to make a run at someone next off-season.

Sounds like Lou's agent overplayed his hand. Opting out was fine. Asking for too much was not. Now he has no job. But, someone will pay him. But, probably not much more had he not opted out. Thanks for the excitement that you,Louuuuuuuuuu brought.

Just terrible representation, and now the guy, regardless of how many suitors he has (very few reports, however interest resurfaces after others sign), there is no longer the "competition element" in negotiations...Lou's value to the Sixers goes way past scorer off the bench,IMO, because he also ran point securely, and toatlly bought in to DC's concepts...I can onlyu wonder how much Iggy's SI comments may have hurt his bargaining power...Shame.

Buying in doesn't mean executing. He is okay at the PG but needs the ball a lot to score. He is a quintessential 6th man who comes in with the 2nd team as the primary scorer. It is a very replaceable skill set. The Sixers already covered it without getting mixed up in a multi year deal and not having a 2 guard in a PG body. I don't think Iggy's comments meant squat. GM's are smarter than buying into a throw away line in a magazine article. They have watched all of the games as scouts, not read SI to figure out Lou Williams. The fact is he opted out of a contract that was def. a fair deal. I never understood why he thought he could get more than he was due next year from the Sixers. In fact, the Sixers just set the market with a very similar player who they got on a 1 year deal at a million less than Williams was due. Wouldn't be surprised if he gets paid less than he was due since teams will want to pay him less if he wants a multi-year deal. Plus they can point at this deal and say the market is 6 million.

I like the signing. Nick Young couldn't miss when he played against the Sixers. Lou W wanted to come back to the Sixers, but wanted more money. His plan seemed like it backfired. The Sixers could use a backup PG, I also would suggest Arron Brooks. Hate to see E Brand go, but he disappeared at times, especially with that salary. I would love a shot blocker/rebounder as another piece of the puzzle. Keep AI, somebody had to play D. When the Sixers have the last possesion of a close game, please keep AI off the court. We lost so many games last year, with the last shot in our possession, because the ball went into AI's hands. Let the hot hand take the last shot.

I can't help but sit back and snicker just a bit. When Iverson was in Philly, the building stayed full, there was excitement everywhere in the city, the team was always in the mix and gave hope even when outgunned, and he was ALWAYS scrapping, hustling, whirling, and scoring. Oh, and many of you whined about his shortcomings and pined for the days of choirboys and backdoor cuts. Well , here you go Philly. The Sixers don't matter. They don't even matter in Philly. Be careful what you wish for, you just might get it.

i like what they are doing so far, Young is a solid player, does not need the ball to get his points, money to play with now that Brand was amnesty......Good Luck EB, I enjoyed watching you and will continue to watch you, hopefully you left left some nuggets of leadership for Evan and Dru.

Neither Young nor Lou provide much D, so this move ispretty much a wash. The fact that its just a one year deal is a good move.

The more interesting move was the signing of Kidd by the Knicks. If that team gets its act together they will definitely compete for the East.

A wash?...Lou's PER 20.22........Nick Young 12.93, While Nick Young does fit the mold of being a better run around screen catch and shoot, and a decent spot up three point shooter...Lou's ball skills, passing ability, and ball security far surpass Nick Young...Hopefully,Nick embraces his role just like Lou did.

if you think Lou williams can't play D what the heck does an 80 year old Kidd do on the defensive end besides cherry pick some steals? he couldn't stay in front of the PG for the Grand Rapids White hairs no less a starting NBA PG at this point.

The next shoe to drop is Kris Humphries. They really have nobody who does enough dirty work under the basket as it stands right now. He will be a 76er by the end of the weekend. Also,Iggy is about to be dealt for somebody's expiring contracts. This move combined with Nick Young's expiring contract sets them up nicely for next year's free agent class. It seems good in theory, anyway.

Adding to that, Lou was the player on the 2012 Sixers who garnered the gameplanning from opposing coaches in the forms of high post trapping, double teams on in bounds passes, and constant )cheap shot) chipping when he ran off the ball...The strength of the Sixers WAS the bench, let's hope it continues as they get deeper.

Nick Young is a mistake. He takes bad shots and plays no defence. He will be in Collin's dog house in not time. Don't understand the Brand move. If you have to pay him, might as well take his 18 and 10.

wow, with a tag like that, you've got to do better...Different players..Nick Young can help as a streaky catch and shoot guy, whether it's running around screens or spotting up facing the basket...fabulous FT shooter...But he's no Lou...Young's PER 12.93...Lou's PER 20.22 (leading the Sixers bigtime)....Lou Williams doubled running point at times,a terrific high post pick and roll player, entry and outlet passer...despite playing a minute an a half less than Young, he scored more points, had 4 times the amount of assists, rebounded more, and committed way less turnovers...He knew his role, and executed it at a very high level...Let's hope Nick Young can do the same.

    1. I guess I'm missing something. If you free up that much money with the amnesty, why can't you resign Lou if you're looking for a backup PG?

    2. Please think before you suggest a trade. Stop with trading Iggy and whatever else for D12. Do you folks never look at the other side? We have to look at what we are willing to give up and what the Magic may want or need. People will say give them everything, but that just leaves us in the same position as Orlando. Why would Dwight want to come here for that??? No!

The Sixers did not need any money freed up for Lou, as resigning one of your own in this case would not have counted as a penalty going over the soft cap....Furthermore, the Sixers wanted Lou...just NOT at what Lou and his agent were looking for...terms close to 30 mil over four years (starter's money)....Once the Sixers closed the page on Lou, to get that "shooter" (or two, as the other shoe will drop soon) the Sixers, who were almost up to the $58 million cap, needed cap relief to go out and get free agents...Nick Young's $6 million deal leaves 12.2 million more for potential free agents...If that free agent is restricted, maybe a sign and trade will go into effect...

Personally I like Iguodala. One of the few here who do, but the point of jrue-Turner-Iguodala not playing well together is valid. One of the three always gets left out and usually that is Turner. If Iguodala/Vucevic for DeRozan/Calderon happens we get a starting scorer in DeRozan and a more-than-capable backup PG in Calderon (who also expires next summer). Looks like we are aiming to be players this summer AND next summer. Smart moves signing 1 & 2 year deals so far. I think we didn't bring back Lou because we don't want to commit long-term. I see a starting PF getting signed with the leftover money from the rookies, resigning LaVoy/Hawes and amnestying Brand. Humphries or Ilyasova. If that's the case we could have a starting lineup like this - Jrue-Turner-DeRozan-Humphries-Hawes. Bench - Calderon-Nick Young-Harkless-Moultrie-LaVoy or insert Ilyasova for Humphries. I could be off the mark but that Toronto trade does fill two needs. A starting scorer and a backup PG. Humphries or Ilyasova fills the rebounding and interior defense/scoring and offensive-rebounding needs.

would be surprised to see AI go now that EB is out. if DC has a win now mentality which is based partly on having a steadying influence on the court then Andre is the glue. EB was getting the big bucks and contributing almost nothing many games - ownership decided could bite the bullet now. the contract terms of the new vet faces on the roster will tell us how much weight we want to throw around next year. problem is that we will need to win now to help entice FAs to take the money.

@coachc - Lou would cost too much, and for too many years, to keep as a backup PG. Worst thing they could do right now is spend money on multi-year deals just because they have the money to spend. They need to save that $ for next year's FA class, even if it means taking a step back this year.

I'm glad Lou is gone. He was a fighter, and he scored for us off the bench, but took too many bad shots and the offensive flow stopped every time he was on the floor. If this team is looking to be mostly a transition offense that moves the ball and plays a team game when they get stuck in the half court, Lou is not the guy. You could physically see the change in the way the offense functioned (ie: less movement off the ball) when he came in to the games last year.

Good (not great)move,, now use the cap space to find a rebounder/shotblocker and let Rosen back up Jrue and Lets Go Sixers. This gives rookies a chance to show their stuff and in another year evaluate where you are. If the rooks work out this will be a competetive squad.

I love the kool-aid drinking fans who swear that every move a team makes is a smart or good move but then bash the fans with a clue. How does that make you more of a fan? Have you ever thought that the person upset with moves is upset because they want to see the team win so badly that it frustrates them to see them make poor moves consistently since Moses was traded.

Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder...To me,Lou Williams was easily the most exciting player on the team, and a reason in the last 2 years of having Sixers basketball become a bigger part my sports yen...These moves will strngthen the teams ability to finance it's future moves, but the key is NOT making mistakes, and not getting in the dangerous mindset of "developing the youth" or "backcourt of the future"...The coach can coach, but the team that gets put together has to fit his style....Last, and not showing up on any stat sheet, losing EB and Lou Williams will have an effect on team personality, identity, and leadership..on the floor and the locker room...Other guys are going to have to step up.

That wasn't directed at you by the way. I agree with you that this does help financially moving forward but they wouldn't have had to do this had they not messed up Lavoy's original contract in the first place. Then we could have traded away an expiring contract or simply kept him around to mentor our young bigs. I also part ways with you when it comes to Collins. I agree that he is a good coach but the whole not playing Evan Turner for Meeks thing has rubbed me the wrong way to no end. I don't think DC develops young talent well now or at any other stop on his coaching career and that wouldn't bother me if we weren't the third youngest team (probably higher now that EB is gone) in the NBA. We must get the most out of our young players more so than other teams with more vets and to be honest with you I don't know if I can truly say that is happening here. They still have time for trades and signing people so I will wait and see what their master plan is but I am not confident in it so far. As far as Lou Will goes, I would rather have him than Nick Young but as you know I am not a Lou Will fan.

Brand is a slug but they should have let his contract expire at the end of this season and then amnesty Iggy. Plenty of cap space then. This team is going nowhere quickly. They need to be in the lottery for two seasons and build around Holiday and those picks. I am tired #8 seed teams, I want championship teams!

I hope these moves work out; I didn't favor amnestying Brand, because at this point, with 1 year left, Brand wasn't really a liability anymore. He was also described by EVERY person who covered the team as a class act, and a necessary voice of reason in the locker room. In addition, if he ever had an issue with Collins, he kept it out of the press. He didn't tell reporters(and fans): "Whatever we learned from (Collins), he learned more from us". No, that guy is still on the team, and now he has plenty of other 6ft4 - 6ft8 wing players to share time with.

Maybe Lou wanted too much money, I don't know. But Young is one of the worst defenders in the league. Maybe he will get more interested under DC? Right now though, I would have rather had Lou back.

They wanted Lou back...but not for the terms him agent pushed for...Leon Rose has many clients. He did this one wrong. At this point of the game, the negotiating edge (competing with his own team) is gone...I wouldn't be surprised to see Lou get a similar, one year deal to what he walked away from.

He's a killer...either his coach, or the other team...no middle ground!...I believe he could be had pretty cheap...ET as a backup PG?...Zack Rosen getting a true shot if he excels in Orlando?...Currently as the roster sits, the Sixers WILL miss Lou Will's "anytime" in the lane ability(obviously more effective when he GOT the calls while getting smashed)...Bummer for me,cause I know Lou would have thrived with a Moultrie/Harkless type athlete to feed (alley oop) after constantly beating defenders off the dribble..Oh well.

Sorry to see Brand go just because he was the only player other teams feared for his toughness. Nobody stepped up to him. This will be the biggest loss from him leaving. Maybe Moultrie can step in.

Signing one average NBA player to replace another doesn't really help much. This team's talent level is stuck at an eighth seed in the playoffs one year, one ping-pong ball in the lottery next. They've been without cap space for too long due to average players making above average money.

Nick Young is not a point guard. While he is a lights out shooter he doesnt provide the kind of versitility that Lou did. While Nick is a better shooter than Lou I'm not sure if he is a better scorer even tho he is nice. Nick is a upgrade over Lou offensively regarding to what Doug likes to do on offense. And he is definately better than Jodie Meeks. Nick Young is a very smooth player for a guy who is 6 foot 6. But alot of Lou's appeal as a player is his veteran savvy. He knows how to get fouled and use his pump fake on a jumper to get to the line. Nick is a better player but Lou can handle the point position while playing shooting guard for the team. I do like the move. It would be even better if the Sixers resign Lou anyway. Having Lou and Young on the bench would be crazy. The next best move would be to trade Iggy right now. It seems like the sixers are reluctant but i believe Iggy's presence on the team keeps players with a higher ceiling from growing. If he is going to be a defensive player then let him be. But I'm tired of seeing the forced passes inbetween the double team. And the infamous jump pass. I dont hate Iggy but i'm more of a sixers fan than a Iggy supporter and he just doesnt do enough to be considered the leader of the team. Lets get what we can for him. Some young players and see if the Sixers can be Oklahoma Thunder East...

Iggy's jump pass may look silly, but he gets away with it, and has shined regarding ball security in the past 2 seasons (If he'd only stop the behind the back passes late in games)...Lou Williams is a better player than Nick Young, as he does initiates sets when called upon, and was true "glue" with ball security, somethingYoung fails at miserably..Lou is a creator, someone who can gain separation, and like you say draw fouls...Lou and Nick have identical shooting stats (Nick's even better than Lou from the line)...but Lou does it more with a wider arsenal, and is MUCH better in uptempo...While I'm upset Lou's no longer a Sixer, Nick young can really help, as his strength is a true "need" for the Sixers...someone who can do it off the ball, catch and shoot.

I think the move will pan out as a slight upgrade as some of you have said (bear etc...) N Young fills a need and the one thing that works in our favor is at one year he must work hard and do the right thing so that he can set himself up for an even bigger payday next year. It works.

As for LW I would look for him to somehow land in Dallas as a PG replacement or possibly Houston both have a big need.

Michael Eric from Temple could sign as a free-agent to play back up center. He played 4 years at Temple and missed a lot of time because of a broken knee cap, so he is another diamond in the rough. He's a well-couched big man like Lavoy Allen.

@Bears.. I think Nick Young still has potential. Not sure if Lou is going to be anything more than a scoring shooting guard in a point guard's body off the bench. I've always liked Lou.. Always but he isnt a creator for other people he is a creator for himself. Not always a dynamic scorer but has developed some presence. I like Lou.. I really do. I'd like for the Sixers to resign him. Isnt like they are going to do any better than him at this point. And the draft is already over. If they were going to do this then they should have drafted a replacement guard in the second round. Just sign Lou to a deal and have a nice rotation. Unless they plan on bringing Evan off the bench again...

I understand the timing makes it look as if Nick Young is a replacement for Williams. But, won't Young really be replacing Meeks? Maybe Young gets some of William's minutes. But, doesn't he get all of Meeks'?

@Bear.. Iggy's jumpshot looks fine.. His handle looks silly. Most of the time when he looks like he is thinking about creating for himself he looks like he is about to accidently crash or draw a foul from himself. If it wasnt for pure athletism I dont understand why he has the ball in his hands so much.

@Borntosuffer.. Every sixers fan hopes so. I dont dislike Jodie but.. if i see anything like i saw last year where the guy is playing 30 plus minutes a game.. I'm going to get someone at wells fargo to throw a shoe at Doug collins head like that mideastern guy did George Bush when he was president.

Yea, I always appreciated Jodie's effort. But, the big part of being a shooting guard is "shooting". Young gives Collins the guy he likes to spread the floor - his reason for starting Meeks over Turner at the beginning of last year. When Hawes was healthy at the beginning of last year, a shooter like Young really could have made the Sixer's a handful to defend.

To all those saying Young is selfish - How many guys on the current roster would you prefer to take a shot over Young? With this team, Young needs to shoot the ball EVERY time he is open. And, Quixote's point that William's 3-point shooting % was lower than Iguodala's? Ouch. A bunch of good slashers and no one to spread the floor. Not saying that Young is the answer to all that ails them. But, at least he gives them a different look and the potential to spread the floor for the slashers.

bears - If Lou is coveted and efficient then why didn't he sign for more somewhere else yet? This move definitely helps his bargaining somewhere else. They will say...why do I want to give you more than 6 million when Nick Young is only getting 6.

I bet someone will sign him to above 6.4 but not by much. Bleacher Report had a great article on Busts of Free Agency this year and Lou was high on the list.

Lou was the most exciting player to watch! Him dribbling the last 24 seconds of each quarter and throwing up an iso one on one shot was dazzling.

I also enjoyed him scoring a lot of points when the game was out of reach and we were up large. Can you tell me one game Lou won it for us besides that Lakers game? I don't remember.

Finally a move based on need.

So far this is our team (officially) - LaVoy Allen
    Moe Harkless
    Spencer Hawes
    Jrue Holiday
    Andre Iguodala
    Arnett Moultrie
    Evan Turner
    Nikola Vucevic
    Nick Young
    Thad Young

No way this is the complete team. We don't have a backup PG and Nick Young is not that. He's the backup SG. With Lou gone we still lack a player to get inside get fouled and get to the free throw line (like Lou did). I don't see anyone on the roster as our current starting PF. Thad? Nope. LaVoy? Possible Moultrie? He's a rookie, no. We still need a scorer in our starting lineup to hit the three. Ilyasova can do that. If we want more scoring we go for DeRozan/Calderon to fill the scoring and back PG roles in one move (trading Iguodala/Vucevic). I feel we are 3 players away but that would include trading Iguodala or Thad. We can be wrong about who the 76ers are targeting. Remember how many of us felt they were going to go after Josh Smith then out-of-the-blue they sign Elton Brand for the "Philly-max"? Whatever happens it is not going to be based on what the fans want but what Doug Collins and company want. Rightfully so. Many of us have our own opinions and they differ from one another. DC and company have to base their decisions on THEIR basketball knowledge and not ours.

Folks don't forget Lou opted out. Young provides a need and will be what Meeks should have been. Space the floor for holiday, ET and Iggy. The team could not get tied up again by another bad multi year deal that Lou was looking for. Trust me we would have regret signing Lou to a multi year deal tying up cap space.

Just in case he does not get a deal he's satisfied with. 1 year 7 mil. Slightly overpay. We will need a point guard we now have the money with the recent move. Leave an offer on the table 1 yr 6.5-7 mil before he signs elsewhere. Find out mahinmi's asking price for 1 yr. sign battie 1 yr offer Lou the rest for 1 yr.

Offer Lou the last year of his deal 1 year 6.3 mil. And Ian Mahinmi and lavoy Allen type deal. Battie at 13.
    Turner, jrue, iguodala, Arnett, Spencer
Lou (1 yr 6.3), Nick Young, Thad, Lavoy, Nik.
Mahinmi (1 yr slightly overpay) Harkless. Battie (1 year) at 13.
Give turner the ball. It's time to evaluate and decide on his 6.7 mil team option. If he fails or doesn't live up to expectations, decline the option, let him walk. Mahinmi (3.5 mil) nick young (6.0 mil) Lou (6.3 mil) Turner (6.7 mil) that's 24 mil in cap space next summer.

i still think the move is turner, not iggy. i see turners offensive game obvi continuing to improve but iggy brings too much to the table especially defensively when you have guys like melo and paul pierce and now joe johnson in your division. i think last season was big for iggys mental toughness and overall mentality as the "leader" on this team. they are all moving in the right direction and learning how to win.

Awful move. The only think Young give you more of than Lou is height, but it's not like he uses it to rebound. If DC can coach him up, then it might be a good move. Maybe they'll be able to make a play at some of the restricted FAs that will hit the market after next season. Will miss Lou though.

I can not believe all the love for Lou. He was a good bench/role player that opted out. In young they have a specialist for the first time in a long time. Another shoe will drop. Don't think about Young replacing Lou but replacing Meeks. This move will also force DC to play ET more. No down side here

Honestly, i do not understand the love affair with Lou. I thought he was a good player, but the main focus must shift to Holliday and Turner (Bear please let it go). This team core players is very young and the front office should develop the team as such.As far as EB, his production did not add up to his contract and he is taking a roster spot away for a younger developing player. In todays market its only two ways to build a team. First, through draft and young players like OKC. Secondly, target three stars and pay them max money (Boston,Miami,Nets). The Sixers have choose to develop young players.Fine! Now Iggie must go because your captain cannot have a low offensive ceiling. Also, he talent is his athleticism and it is only a matter of time before that starts declining.

According to Hollinger, the Sixers front office is bungling their future. By not having a team option year or two on Allen's contract (like everyone else would do), the Sixers had to waist the mid level on Allen, which necessitated cutting Brand so that you could sign Young instead of using the mid level on Young and having more cap space for another, better free agent.

They should have amnestied Brand earlier and went after Hibbert. Young and Hawes would have just about covered Hibberts contract. The problem is they draft Harkless who plays a combo of Iggy and Thad Young.
They have no play makers since they let Williams leave. They need shooters and a play maker. Also Why get Hawes who plays the exact same way as Vucevic. Why not get a guy who can come in and run and block shots? Can't seem them as an imporved team. Contract wise they have a lot of flexibility and if they keep Iggy then next year he will prob. opt out and they will have a ton of cap space. I would try and trade Iggy now for young players and shooters. They aren't contending anytime soon. Get young like OKC and in 2 years they can contend.

I would have liked to see Ryan Anderson with the 76 but maybe he was to rich given the cap situation. If they want to see what Thad can do as a starter at the 4 that makes sense too. My only concern is that Thad doesn't rebound or block shots and that would be nice from a power forward. He also can't shoot the three, so that takes from his value as a small forward. I don't see Harkless doing any of those things either, and while Nick Young can shoot the three he is 6'7 and only gets 1 rebound per game. Lou Williams could have done that. I'm Interested to see how this all pans out. Jerryd Bayless would be a great addition as he is already better than Holiday, but the Sixers are enamored with Holiday and Bayless might have a hard time finding minutes here. If someone with the Sixers front office every reads any of this stuff get Bayless. He's fast, tenacious, can pass, and shoot the 3. He is a Perfect fit for the 7 6.

Ok, So Bayless is maybe not better than Holiday :) I may have rushed to judgmen. I do think they would be a good combo though, and Bayless would be relatively cheap, if Holiday is serious about this max contract stuff.

X, I agree with the Bayless pickup but, we would be very small but tenacious. I can't see the 76 making this move because this is a put up or shut up year for Holiday since he wants a max contract. It would be smart though to add him just in case. Good point X
