Scout disses Sixers in Sports Illustrated

Rare to open Sports Illustrated and see something on the Sixers, but it's there this week. On the "Inside the NBA" page, Chris Mannix has a small item in which he quotes an unnamed Western Conference scout talking about the Sixers. Here it is:
"They are having dunk contests before games; they are running plays sloppily or not all the way through; and they aren't listening to (coach) Eddie Jordan. They have quit. They know Eddie is gone (after the season) and they think they don't have to listen anymore. The thing is, they are making themselves look like a-------. These guys think that just because Eddie is gone they will be back (next year). But nobody wants guys who give up when things go bad. Eddie's offense was a bad fit for this roster - they have to find a way to play more up-tempo - but these guys are embarrassing themselves. And everyone around the league knows it."
There you have it. Thoughts?
Bingo. We can't get rid of all of them, but it will eventually happen. Remember what "professional" means. Icemannj
I don't see much Sixers down here, but I did witness that "game" against Chicago last weekend. The Sixers looked like they were playing in a pickup game at the YMCA, except with way less intensity. B in DC

Hard to make serious comments without knowing if this scout has any angle against the Sixers but as a general matter, I'm glad he's calling this team out and what he is saying isn't factually wrong. I'm not an Eddie Jordan guy by any means but this team is a mess from the top down. Where is the owner and/or GM to step in and get the players in line? This whole organization quit on themselves and the city and it's a disgrace. The worst part is these players are mostly young and have never accomplished anything. Who are they to act like this? I could see if we had a bunch of veterans, but young guys acting up?! Again, Eddie J. was a bad fit from day 1 and most of us that actually follow this team knew it. Then again, it's not like there were coaches breaking down the doors to take a job here so I can't completely blame him 100%. Many of us have been saying for some time now that Sixers need a Godfather like house cleaning similar to when Gillick took over Phillies. The lackadaisical/losing attitude needs to go. Out went Bobby A. Libby, and others and the entire dynamic began to change. Same here, Sammy D., Iggy., Brand (to lesser extent) need to go if for no other reason than addition by subtraction. DennyP
Amen. I have not been able to watch more than 5 minutes of Sixers basketball this year. The team is an absolute joke. They should have dealt Iggy and Sammy at the deadline and retooled. The organization is a ship sailing without a leader right now. And that goes from Ed to Ed to Eddie. Maybe we should stay away from people named Ed from now on. Legion of Doom

Thank God our other winter team is playing with intensity, passion, and skill, the Flyers. What's that? They stink as well? Might not make the playoffs? Gee, what is the common denominator of these two clubs? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? chuckw
Agreed - no character from most guys on this team. It's obvious with Iguana but surprised All-American Dookie Elton Brand is a character fraud too. Jordan is a major problem, but they players showed their true colors this year too. Blow up the team - keep Jrue and Lou. AllDawk_AllTheTime- Flyers are struggling, but not even comparable to the Sucksers.
- Expect this to continue for another 5- 10 years unless they land one of the top 2 draft picks this year... PuPuMan
Well, when you have a team full of 22-23 year old millionaires, what do you expect? Guys like Ratliff, Marshall, Miller, & Ollie are what held this together in past couple years. Now who is leading? Brand is a quality guy, but hes (a) still a relative newcomer in terms of getting on the court and (b) not assertive enough. Dalembert? again, a good guy but too much of a goofball. Green? another good guy, but not old enough or good enough to have leadership cred. Igoudala? plays hard, but too immature himself to be a good leader. I have hope for holiday down the road, but he looks like he's still in high school now. duder
Who said "keep Lou?" He's a nice guy but he's part of the problem. He plays one on five and his shot selection, outside of drives, stinks. He doesn't understand he's an ideal 15-20 minute option off the bench depending on what the other team offers up defensively. The biggest problem is that he's inconsistent; he's also turning out to be injury prone. Trade him for something that's a better fit for the team. jimmy76er
Players are mostly children. Unless they are held accountable by a Coach that brings CREDIBILITY, they will have an excuse. Eliminate excuses, hold players accountable by hiring a Coach with Credibility. Doug Collins will be your next Sixer coach and he will hold the players accountable. JBP- How about some REAL reporting, for a change? OBVIOUSLY the Sixers are a joke- why can't the reporters in Philly see that? wylies99
