Report: Sixers in talks about Iguodala trade

POSTED: Thursday, August 9, 2012, 1:28 PM
Will Andrew Bynum, Andre Iguodala, and Dwight Howard all be moved as part of the same trade? (AP Photos)

The 76ers are involved in talks that could send Andre Iguodala to the Nuggets as part of a four-team blockbuster trade, according to Yahoo! Sports.

The website reports that sources say the deal would send Orlando’s Dwight Howard and Denver forward Al Harrington to the Lakers, Lakers center Andrew Bynum to the Sixers, and Lakers forward Pau Gasol and Denver guard Arron Affalo going to Orlando.

Talks have grown serious “over the course of the week,” according to the report, but a deal is not considered imminent. Yahoo! also said there are moving parts to the deal to be resolved.

Yahoo! said the Magic would have a better chance of moving Gasol in another deal and eliminate the risk of Bynum leaving as a free agent in 2013. In one of the scenarios, either Gasol or Bynum would come to the Sixers.

And if any little 5'7" guards start to score on us in the post season.... Bynum will blind side them and put them to the ground!!!

I would have traded Iggy for anything...this would be amazing.

I'll take Hedo and Richardson to get Bynum!

I'm definitely exaggerating but come on....you get a year of Bynum AT THE LEAST with Turner and Jrue getting to play freely...how anyone could be against this is amazing.

I'm with you man. I'd send Iggy for a batman sticker, a starter jacket from the 80's and a super squeezer from 7 11. Glad to see we arent really going to keep him here to stagnate other people's growth.

I'd do this yesterday. Bynum gives the 76 the best C in the East Conf. hands down and may even propel them to the 3rd best team in the EC as well (Miami and Indy are 1-2). Also they can offer him a max contract if he pans out and maybe even have enough left over with all the expiring contracts to grab CP3 after the season. And if he doesnt pan out? You are off the hook and still have a boatload of cap space to work with. Win-win

Make this happen immediately. Though Andrew Bynum is a selfish, Terrell Ownens-type punk, this would give us a great return for Iggy and finally be able to get his contract off the books. Even if Bynum only stayed a year, we'd still be able to let Iggy go. Bynum actually has potential to stay since NY and NJ already blew their loads on a ton of crappy players. He's from the area and the Sixers can certainly afford him if he's comfortable playing here. Bynum and Lavoy could be a formidable force.

Nobody cared about basketball anyway. Tell it to the 5 people who are watching Team USA play basketball. Lets face it, most people want them to lose.

so you're one of the five fans and consider yourself to be a loser or you're not one of the five fans and had nothing better to do with your day than post on an article about a sport you don't like. either way, one thing is clear....you're a loser looking for attention.

Tried a couple of permutations of this trade out on ESPN's trade machine (which isn't always definitive because they do a lousy job of keeping the information updated), and it can work. Magic would have to throw Quentin Richardson (not Jason) into the deal and send him to Denver to make it work. If Orlando really wants additional cap relief (somebody taking on Hedo or J-Rich), then more pieces have to be involved. Good thing we've got several relatively affordable, short-term deals to throw in as filler...

i take back Richardsonms contract if I had to..however I would try to pawn it off to Denver. I would not take back Hedo and Richardson, especially what we would have to give up to make the money work...but hey we gave Nocioni 6 mil, so Richardson at 6 mil, isnt the end of the world. He can still shoot!

I don't get it. What is LA giving up to get all that? Seems the NBA does everything possible to bolster that organization.

actually, the deal really isn't that great for them. they're giving up an all star in gasol and the 2nd best center in the league for one guy in the tail end of his career and a center who happens to be coming off of back surgery. not to burst everyone's bubble but rick buecher was on espn giving this trade no shot.

A few years ago I was at the 1st eagles preseason game against the patriots, sitting in the flight deck when midway thru the 2nd quarter it was announced that the EaLGES had just aquired micheal Vick! Tonight I will be sitting in the flight deck again...any chance that midway thru the 2nd quarter its announced that Bynum is a sixer? a man can dream right?

This would be an absolute no-brainer. Pull the trigger!

Tried again, and the deal does work with the Sixers taking back J-Rich along with Bynum - they'd have to send Dorrell Wright to Orlando to make it work. They can't deal Brown, Hawes or Young until 12/15/12, so Wright becomes the only reasonable piece they can move. Deal would be:

ORL gets Gasol, Afflalo and Wright (and likely draft picks); LAL get Howard and Harrington (useful both as a potential bench player and his contract is only 50% guaranteed over the next 2 seasons); DEN gets Iguodala; Sixers get Bynum and Richardson.

It could work, BUT: The Sixers would have to hope pretty hard that it works out right away and Bynum wants to stay, because the only team with any kind of attractive draft picks to give up in the deal is US. So we'd probably be promising at least one, if not two future 1sts to Orlando, and probably without much protection on the picks. If things don't work out quickly and Bynum walks at the end of the season, we'd be SOL.

I also don't see how Orlando would/should be all that interested in the deal - Gasol's contract is a MONSTER for another two seasons, and Afflalo's locked in (at a fairly reasonable price) for FOUR more seasons. Just getting Richardson (and then Dorrell Wright at the end of the year) off the books doesn't seem like enough to seal the deal to me.
