Will Andrew Bynum, Andre Iguodala, and Dwight Howard all be moved as part of the same trade? (AP Photos)

The 76ers are involved in talks that could send Andre Iguodala to the Nuggets as part of a four-team blockbuster trade, according to Yahoo! Sports.

The website reports that sources say the deal would send Orlando’s Dwight Howard and Denver forward Al Harrington to the Lakers, Lakers center Andrew Bynum to the Sixers, and Lakers forward Pau Gasol and Denver guard Arron Affalo going to Orlando.

Talks have grown serious “over the course of the week,” according to the report, but a deal is not considered imminent. Yahoo! also said there are moving parts to the deal to be resolved.

Yahoo! said the Magic would have a better chance of moving Gasol in another deal and eliminate the risk of Bynum leaving as a free agent in 2013. In one of the scenarios, either Gasol or Bynum would come to the Sixers.

I'm hoping not, but maybe one Harkless is involved, as rookies can be dealt 30 days after they sign,correct?...Of the Sixer's lottery protected pick could be used...I really thought Orlando would seek out the Rockets, as that team has legitimate young, cheap, and talented assets....although the Asik contract sort of makes no sense for the Rockets.

#s don't work (at least not with J-Rich in the deal) with Harkless in place of Wright. I'm still more than a little dubious about this deal - it doesn't seem to make sense for Orlando, unless they've abandoned the idea of putting together a whole bunch of young talent and are just looking to line up all of their expiring contracts for the end of the 2013/2014 season (which this deal would do - they'd have close to $40 million coming off the books all at once).

It also doesn't seem to make a lot of sense for Denver, either - the Harrington contract is bad, but not super-terrible, especially given that he's only 50% guaranteed over the remainder of the contract. Is getting rid of that contract really worth paying an additional $9 million a year to Iguodala in place of Afflalo, who gives you about 85% of Iggy's defense and is a better scorer?

Bynum is the ultimate tease. He has the potential to be a stud big man, but always fail to stay healthy. I don't mind having his expiring contract to play with us for a contract year. But beyond that, I would hesitate to pay this guy any long term deal given his health history (oden light).

@johnGiam - Sorry to burst your bubble, but even if the trade does go down, there's no way it happens until AFTER the Olympics are over. Denver and Orlando would be out of their minds to make this deal while there's still a chance that Iguodala and/or Gasol suffer some sort of serious injury in Olympic play.

JLB: Actually, any deal would not be announced until after the Olympics, not necessarily because of fear of injuries (which can happen in the off-season in pick-up games, heavy workouts &c), but because David Stern wants nothing to get in the way of a gold medal and all the positive vibes arising from it.
johnGiam: hopefully a deal for Bynum would work out much better than the signing of Michael Vick has done thus far.

I guess we were both wrong, huh chuck? johnGiam, I'm going to have to ask that you keep me posted whenever you're going to the flight deck in the future so that I can keep my phone handy for when the big stories happen.

who needs Bynum when we have Kwame Brown?

This really makes no sense from the Magic's standpoint. Pau Gasol and Aaron Afflalo for Dwight Howard hardly makes sense. Gasol's 32, been in the league 13 years, and is on the downside of his career. Howard is 27, an 8 year player, and in his prime.

While I'd love to get Bynum, I'm not sure I like giving up Iggy. Iggy's still only 29 this season, and if we wait a year we can sign Bynum as a FA and put him alongside Iggy. I'd really like a starting five of Jrue, ET, Iggy, Bynum, and Allen with a bench of Hawes, Vuc, T. Young, Wright/N. Young, Lavoy, Moultrie and Harkless, give me a backup PG and let's lace 'em up!

@GeeOhWiz - They won't have the cap space to sign Bynum this off-season. The Hawes and Brown deals are both two-year deals. Dorrell Wright and Nick Young are 1-year deals, but that only clears about $10 million off the payroll, which isn't even close to being enough to sign Bynum.

Yeah, I forgot to factor in the timing of the contract expirations. The Kwame Brown deal is a real killer...two years for that slug, but would still only get us to $13M. What do you think it will cost for Bynum? North of $16M a year?

Max deal to re-sign will be somewhere north of $16M - max re-sign deal this year (Brook Lopez) was $61M over 4 years. But there will be much stricter rules about sign-and-trades and players signing with new teams that will limit what they can pay him - max for a non re-sign might be closer to $15M for 4.

Two things; 1. who is negotiating for the Sixers? DC is in London, Rod Thorn is the lamest of ducks. 2. According to the latest on ESPN, this whole scenario is not going to happen. The Magic keep kicking the tires, but have shown no real desire to actually consummate any deal for Howard. Hard to believe the Sixers would take Bynum instead of going with Kwame Brown!! Just kidding, of course. At least this woke up Bob Cooney from his summer slumber.

The deal at its current state will be a no go for the Lakers. They would want more than Howard if they are going to give up both Gasol and Bynum. The Sixers would have to give up more than Iggy to get Bynum. They would have to include first round picks and either Jrue (which ORL/LAL probably prefer), ET, Thad or LaVoy. The deal makes no sense for LAL talent-wise and ORL (they want only young talent, no bad/long term contracts).

Not necessarily - Gasol's looked like a player on a pretty steep decline over the last 6 months (end of the regular season, playoffs and even the Olympics), and the rules in the new CBA about how the luxury tax is calculated are putting a lot of pressure on teams like the Lakers and Knicks to get their fiscal house in order. The Lakers might feel like the upgrade they already got in Nash (basically for nothing) is worth getting some financial sanity restored and getting Howard.

The Lakers are way over the luxury tax. They'd happily give up Bynum and Gasol's contracts for Howard who fills the need for NOW competing with Kobe, controlling the money problem, and gives them their future as well.
