New Gig For Steve Mix
Happy Thanksgiving, Steve Mix.
The former 76ers' power forward and longtime TV analyst has surfaced with two new gigs: He's doing some TV work in the Mid-America Conference and has been hired to work with the NBA Developmental League big men.
Mix did not have his Comcast SportsNet contract renewed after the 2006-07 season, and was replaced by Bob Salmi. He was one of three candidates this season for the Sixers assistant coaching position that eventually went to Jeff Ruland.
The opportunity to work with the D-League forwards and centers came, in part, via a recommendation from Sixers senior vice-president/assistant general manager Tony DiLeo.
The 6-7 Mix was with the Sixers from 1973-74 through '81-82, representing them in the '75 NBA All-Star Game.
i thought he was too negative about the sixers when he was a color man. he pointed out things that other teams could send to the official office such as, "every time sammy does this he walks" what an idiot. Wise_Owl
I like Mix ten times better than Salmi. I appreciated his insight. I've certainly enjoyed the Sixers broadcasts less lately. Tom Mc is the best though. HandNik
Salmi is a dolt. It is absolute torture sitting through a game that he's providing commentary for. He's preachy and condescending and says everything twice. Nothing he says is the slightest bit insightful. Mix was knowledgable and funny. Comcast blew it by not bringing him back. jqryder
Fired by Sixers for speaking his mind. Salmi is horrible and allows Zumoff's ego and stupid cliches to run wild. Drew777
Other teams weren't watching the Sixers broadcasts for help. Letting Mix go would be like the Phillies letting LA go. east halls
Mix was not only color but he was a true sixer fan. He won and lost with us. If I have to hear Salmi talk about his Knick days one more time or how Pat Riley was such a good coach I might just mute my tv and turn on the radio for commentary (which is awesome btw). We need a real philly guy to do the commentary Barkley
