Marshall Leaves SportsNet For Coaching Job

Donyell Marshall, who appeared in 25 games with the 76ers in 2008-09 and spent last season as an analyst for Comcast SportsNet, has joined the coaching staff at George Washington University.

Andy Miller, Marshall's agent, confirmed the move to the Daily News.

''He loved what he did at SporttsNet, but he definitely was going to go in to coaching at some point,'' Miller said. ''His heart is on the sidelines.''

The major connection in the move was GW coach Karl Hobbs, a former assistant at Connecticut. Marshall starred at UConn, and was the Big East Player Of The Year in 1993-94.

''UConn ties run deep,'' Miller said. "This heated up in the last 2-3 weeks.''

Marshall was the No. 4 overall pick in the NBA's 1994 draft, taken by Minnesota. He played with eight different teams before retiring after '08-09.

He averaged 3.8 points in his season with the Sixers.
