Lou Williams out 8 weeks

POSTED: Thursday, November 26, 2009, 1:31 PM

Sixers guard Lou Williams underwent surgery this morning for a fractured jaw and will be out 8 weeks, the team announed.

Williams had his upper and lower jaws wired together after he was examined by team physician Dr. Jack McPhilemy  and oral surgeon Alfred Wolanin. Williams will meet with a nutritionist in the coming days to review a liquid diet designed to assist him in maintaining his weight.

Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski was noncommital on whether he would look to add a guard to the roster.

''We are going to see,'' he said. ''We have versatility in the backcourt.''

The Sixers' roster stands at 13, with Williams and Marreese Speights (knee) unavailable. Ther NBA limit is 15, with a maximum of 12 active for any game.

Rookie Jrue Holiday made his first start in Wednesday night's loss in Boston.

We'll get to see if Jrue Holiday is for real. I think he'll have his troubles but will impress with his defense, hustle and developing offensive game.

I wouldn't sign Iverson. He is a back-up guard at this point and I doubt he wants to play just one year for a swan-song. The sixers have lost two decent players and so we get a high lottery pick in the next draft. Next year, trade non-rebounding Thad with Sammy's expiring contract for a bona-fide guard. BTW, my sense is that Stefanski has failed as a GM. He spent $80M on a wounded veteran, hired a coach who doesn't understand defense and signed a second tier player (Iggy) to a first tier contract. He is one or two poor decisions from being booted. Iverson would be poor decision number one, leaving him at most one poor call left.

They have VERSATILITY in the backcourt? Willie Green? Royal Ivey? My dictionary must be badly out of date.

Bring Iverson back. I'll definately go and buy tickets to multiple games if he comes back. If not I have no interest in going down there. Stefanski has been a disaster.

I agree Stefanski gave Iggy too much money. He is merely very athletic, but has no real basketball skill or finesse. I look forward to more Jrue. Maybe they can move Lou before the league figures out he's an Iverson clone, just not as talented.

This is probably the best thing for the Sixers, since they are stuck with all these crazy big contracts & stuck with a coach that has no clue. I guess the only way they can improve this team is through high draft pick....I hope they just play out the rest of the season and get a very high drift pick....Is very hard to watch this team right now as a true Sixers fan.

As a Sixer fan since the 'Docter' days I can see good times coming, The emergence of Drue Holiday and an exentual return to prominence. My best to a true warior, AI. johnnyu
