options

Royal Ivey, who appeared in 71 games as a backup guard for the 76ers, has declined his player option for the 2009-10 season.

Keith Glass, Ivey's agent, informed Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski of Ivey's decision in a letter late last week.

Ivey, who was listed as earning $854,957 this season, was scheduled to earn the veteran's minimum of $959,111 in '09-10. He originally had until July 2 to make his decision, but agreed to move the date to today.

Ivey, known primarily for his defense and an ability to fill in at both backcourt positions, averaged 3.0 points in 12.1 minutes.

He was actually a pretty solid defensive PG off the bench. He was brought in to play D, not hit 3s. With the Sixers looking to draft a guard though, he probably wasn't going to see many minutes next season.

Wow, guys what great comments. Bad teams don't need good role players. This guy can play and will contribute on a better team, not a starter or all-star but a solid role player. and he will get over a mil to play next year.

Ivey can't play. He couldn't outplay Willie Green. He'll be lucky to stay in the NBA next season. He'll never be a starter in the NBA, or even a 6th man. Better to have the spot open for a draft pick.
