Iverson won't play in All-Star Game

POSTED: Thursday, February 11, 2010, 5:47 PM

Allen Iverson will not play in his 11th straight NBA All-Star Game on Sunday in Dallas.

Family matters come first.

A source familiar with the 76ers and Iverson’s situation indicated that Iverson’s 3-year-old daughter, who has been ill, has developed additional problems. Iverson, who had intended to be in Dallas by Friday, made the decision today to remain with his family in Atlanta.

It remains unclear whether this will impact his plan to rejoin the Sixers next Tuesday night when they face the Miami Heat in the Wachovia Center.

"Allen has to take care of business at home, that’s the mosdt important thing," Sixers president/general manager Ed Stefanski said. "And that’s what he should be doing."

Commissioner David Stern replaced Iverson on the Eastern Conference roster with the New York Knicks’ David Lee. At the same time, Stern named Dallas Mavericks guard Jason Kidd to the Western Conference roster, replacing the Los Angeles Lakers’ Kobe Bryant, who has been struggling with an ankle injury.

Kidd, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, will be appearing in his 10th All-Star Game. Lee, who has racked up 30 double-doubles in points and rebounds for the Knicks, will be making his All-Star debut.

@scrapplejoe he was voted in by the fans. He didn't ask to go, he didn't vote for himself, the fans voted him in, so get over it. That being said all you AI haters won't have him to kick around much longer, because I do believe we have seen the last of Bubba Chuck. Thanks for the memories.

hahaha dumbest comment goes to johnny o hahah. He has a lifetime check coming in from reebok, he has been in the top 5 highest paid athletes in the nba up till 2006 or so. He can live off his reebok contract alone. That not even considering what he got from the league and is going to get when he retires. It def wasnt about the money hes getting what maybe 600,000 this year come on johnny. They have not proven to be better without him. They are the same damn team. OOO wow they went on a 5 game winning streak 4 actually w/o allen. OOO big deal there are times when willy was starting before allen got here and i was like what his he doing dont even start with they are playing better without him sheesh.
