The Sixers made it official this morning that guard Allen Iverson will not be returning to the team this season.
Iverson missed five games before the All-Star break to be with his 4-year-old daughter, Messiah, who is suffering from an undisclosed illness. After coming back for a three-game stint, Iverson left again before the team embarked on a west coast swing and has not returned, missing the past four games.
It would appear that Iverson's career has come to an end, as his game, as well as his desire to keep playing it, appears to have diminished significantly as the season went on.
In a statement, president and general manager Ed Stefanski said: "After discussing the situation with Allen, we have come to the conclusion that he will not return to the Sixers for the remainder of the season, as he no longer wishes to be a distraction to the organization and teammates that he loves very deeply. It has been very difficult for Allen and the team to maintain any consistency as he tries to balance his career with his personal life."
The team said they will release any additional updates on Iverson's status as they become available.

I never liked Iverson's game and the Sixers failed him by not getting him a 6'3" or taller PG who could shoot the three to compliment his style. With that being said it is obvious something is not right with his little girl and anyone who would cast aspersions on him now is a total ingrate. Unfortunately Philadelphia is overwhelmed with ingrates, morons and low life scum. Grill
Does anyone still care about the Sixers? When are they going to sell that team and move them to another city... EaglesFan1983
Rayne, You are 100% While the sixers were out west playing the lakers A.I was to busy in NC getting paid to be at a Party. http://sandrarose.com/2010/03/01/allen-iverson-exposed/ Sad but true. Stanley78
Well that was a waste of time. Barely more attendance since he came back and he did nothing but waste Jrue Holiday's development by having him riding the pine. I love AI but this did nothing for the team. Sad to see him go under this circumstance and I hope his daughter gets better. Two1Five
Thanks for the memories AI. cuso20
Yo, dat's my hair-braided homie y'alls talkin bout. Quit trashin my baggy-shorts-wearin-bro. Chill fools. Big Game
I'm glad he came back for a victory lap and a goodbye. No one can deny that he's one of the Sixers' all time greats. May his daughter get well soon and may he enjoy his retirement with his family. MCA

He was the greatest scorer in NBA history for a small gaurd. Ever. Now you can't dispute that. And the name of the game is to put the ball in the basket. If you hate AI you are obviously not a true Sixer fan or you're an ungrateful moron. Cheers to AI's career. It was electrifying. XmarksTheSpot
Only hope that the Sixer organization gives him a celebration honoring him as one of the greatest, if not the greatest Sixer ever. I've seen them all, and he is right there with Wilt, Doc and Barkley all three of whom had a better supporting cast. Don't think so, get a tape of game seven against Toronto the year they went to the finals. Down the stretch it was one 5"10" guy against an entire team. Good luck Alan, cvtrav
Great player ,fast ,strong, super quick athelet! God bless, nice Bentley BigLar92
When he played for Georgetown... nycsedc
