Iverson Would Have To Make Good

POSTED: Tuesday, December 1, 2009, 3:31 PM

Should the 76ers bring back Allen Iverson?
Yes.
No.

The 76ers are prepared to sign free agent guard Allen Iverson, but only if Iverson is prepared to accept a non-guaranteed contract, according to a source familiar with the situation.

The Sixers would offer a pro-rated $1.3 million, the veterans' minimum for players with at least 10 seasons of experience; Iverson is in his 14th season, the first 10-plus of which he spent with the Sixers.

The source said the Sixers are awaiting a response from Leon Rose, Iverson's agent.

The Sixers want to see whether Iverson is serious about his desire to return to the team. The contract would be guaranteed for the remainder of the season if he is on the roster Jan. 10.

The Sixers' responsibility in a guaranteed deal would be for roughly $600,000-$650,000.

The source also said that the earliest Iverson could be ready to play would be next Monday at home against the Denver Nuggets, but they have not targeted a specific date. They will not do that until a deal is finalized.

There's no progression here. Come on, guys. What we have doesn't cut. This at least makes this team fun. We can't do anything until Brand's gone, so why not have some fun at a small expense? Sign the deal, AI, I'll welcome you back.

A waste of money??? What about the money the sixers are paying for Sam-Bam and his non-existent offense?? 600 grand is a bargain even if AI is the washed-up ball hog you say he is. We can start him for a couple months, retire him in honor at the end of the season, and everyones happy. Lou and Jrue progression derailed??? You're looking at the one of the youngest PG duos in the NBA, I don't see how they can be 'derailed' in half a season. Come on, we let AI be our star for 10 years, I think its our duty to just give the guy a proper going-away party. Its not like we have any sort of a contending team this year.

The "offer" is an insult and A.I. should wait for a better one. I don't think that the Sixers want Iverson back but it does give the impression of trying to do something. If he'll work for nothing so much the better. Say no Allen, modify your position on the role that you'll play and try to join a team with a chance.

Thaddeus Young has been absolutely EXPOSED this year. He is nothing but a 7th man at best, just stop with the Thaddeus Young nonsense, just stop. And Lou Williams is a pretty decent offensive player, which is totally offset by his defense (WORSE than Iverson's, at least Iverson got some steals). Andre Iguodala would be the 4th scoring option on a good team. Sam Dalembert, I mean just there mere mention of his name makes me cringe. SAM DALEMBERT DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO PLAY BASKETBALL. So the point of all this is, yes, please, bring back AI, and start him, Holliday, Iggy, Jason Smith, and Brand.
