Iguodala on trading block? Probably not now
Bob Cooney
Various reports are saying that the Los Angeles Clippers are looking to get in touch with the 76ers about swingman Andre Iguodala. When contacted this morning, president/general manager Ed Stefanski said that he would not comment on any trade talks.
A trade of Iguodala now doesn't seem to jive with what new coach Doug Collins has been saying since his May hiring, which is that he is looking forward to coaching Iguodala and it is his belief that the 6-7 Arizona product can be one of the best defensive players in the league.
"I think this summer is such a great thing for his career," said Collins this morning while on his way to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas to watch Iguodala practice with Team USA. "I'm very excited about being his coach. We need him for the type of defensive team we want to be. I think he can be the best defensive player at his position in the league.
"During the practices, my son Chris (who is helping out for head coach Mike Krzyzewski) said that Dre had defended four different positions yesterday. There were situations where he defended the four (big forward), because in International play, the four is often a smaller guy. I think he's in a great place. Even since my first conversation with him out in California after I was hired, things have been terrific. I think things are headed in a real good place."
Which would seem to indicate that Iguodala is not headed anywhere right now.

- This is Doug Collins Team....he was hired to rebuild it. He wants Iggy. End of story. TheBlank
- It doesn't have to be a straight up trade. Player could be rerouted to other destinations. Kaman doesn't not fit here. I don't recall Collins saying he was changing the team to a have court team. he said he wanted a pressure defense and for the defense to be their offense. I can't see us getting a player back of any value to us. So it would have to be picks and cap relief. If anyone needs to go it would be Speights. He is lazy on defense.
You guys crack me up do we watch the same team here? 2 years ago thad was our best player, last year Eddie princeton offense jordan screws him up and we got a bad year. I beleve he isa good player still and has more upside then what Iggys max is now. There is no place for "AI" on this team. His defense has always been way overblown he is an avg defender who cant create his own shot, has no handle and cant shoot. why would you want him? Dparente
Does anyone realize that the 76rs cant hit the side of a barn from beyond 20.That make a slashing three less effective .Brand is dead weight ,Smith needs more playing time. You all are probably the same idiots that thought the Moses, trade made sense. I'm just glad im not that smart and just like to watch Tob226
I think Iguodala will be a better player for a team that acquires him than he is right now, with the 76ers. The question is, does either Stefanski or Collins want to trade him? The 76ers and Iguodala need a fresh start, without each other. The 76ers need more height, rebounding and players with the ability to create their own shot. 76erfn
Can you say "salary cap relief?" Take it in a heart-beat. Less highlight reels, but more opportunities to turn this situation around. Are the Sixers management smart enough to take it? RunningTheBases- Iguadala is a quitter. Let's not forget that. Phillip?
depends on what la is willing to give up kgd
Let's have a going away party for Iggy the day after he leaves. syracusenats
whatever works'' glendale66
To those who think either Iggy or Young has to be traded? Really? Why should other teams have depth at forward and the Sixers should not? It's not like the Sixers would get fair trade value in return. Do you think the Clippers are going to give up Blake Griffin? Of course not. Well, getting a motivated Iggy back is better than "salary cap relief" and a couple young guys. In today's NBA, who's going to sign with the Sixers if we do get the extra cap room? Probably no one better than Iggy, and we'd have to wait a year or two to sign them. DeanoP44
iggy is a top notch defender, case closed. okay, he's not a no.1 scorer, but he IS a no.1 defender. for anyone who actually understands the nba, we know offense does not win championships, defense does. iggy is a piece to the puzzle. any good gm knows that. he's getting paid, but not like a no.1 for those whoe keep saying that. he makes half of what joe johnson makes, calm down. asianbutta- Not sure I understand the posts that say trade your best player for nothing in return ? To free up cap space to sign and over-pay another over-rated player like Joe Johnson or Josh Smith and then complain about them and trade them for another batch of nothing 7mel11
He is not our best player. His averages are weak and he is horrible in the clutch. Unload him for whatever we can otherwise he will stunt the growth of Jrue and Turner. CBent1
The NBA still exists?? Rocco Balboa
