Iguodala on trading block? Probably not now
Bob Cooney
Various reports are saying that the Los Angeles Clippers are looking to get in touch with the 76ers about swingman Andre Iguodala. When contacted this morning, president/general manager Ed Stefanski said that he would not comment on any trade talks.
A trade of Iguodala now doesn't seem to jive with what new coach Doug Collins has been saying since his May hiring, which is that he is looking forward to coaching Iguodala and it is his belief that the 6-7 Arizona product can be one of the best defensive players in the league.
"I think this summer is such a great thing for his career," said Collins this morning while on his way to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas to watch Iguodala practice with Team USA. "I'm very excited about being his coach. We need him for the type of defensive team we want to be. I think he can be the best defensive player at his position in the league.
"During the practices, my son Chris (who is helping out for head coach Mike Krzyzewski) said that Dre had defended four different positions yesterday. There were situations where he defended the four (big forward), because in International play, the four is often a smaller guy. I think he's in a great place. Even since my first conversation with him out in California after I was hired, things have been terrific. I think things are headed in a real good place."
Which would seem to indicate that Iguodala is not headed anywhere right now.

Depending on what the Clips are offering, I would be listening very intently. This team isn't going anywhere in the East. If you can move Iggy for assets (picks, younger players, cap relief), then do it. That also let's Young play the 3. One of the two have to go and Young fits more into the plan as far as growing with Holiday and Turner. DennyP
"OH GREAT" dribbler
Why do one of the two have to go? Is Iggy gonna play all 48 minutes? We need bench players that can actually contribute when the starters need rest or are in foul trouble and Young fits that role. the sichee-ation- Unless the Clippers are offering Kaman, I don't see a deal that makes sense. JLB
really? because i would be pretty content with blake griffin, aminu, and/or eric gordon. kaman doesnt really make alot of sense anyway considering hes already 28, and would be in his 30s before we make any kind of push. Snakes
Wouldn't it be great if they took Brand instead? Of course it would be great if there was a Santa Claus as well. Vituperator
If they are not offering Kaman, I'd hang up the phone. They are not offering Griffin and we don't need Gordon since we have Turner. They can have Igs if Kaman is being sent our way. emg2
A good player and cap relief is the only sense a trade would make for the Sixers (unless they can get next year's first rounder out of the Clippers). This is all fall-out from the Lebron sweepstakes. Alot of teams got shut out and now are scrambling with all that cap space, to put a competitive product on the floor. beegal99
Give them back Brand ! Big Ragu
The only thing I would take from the Clips is Griffin. Kaman is a good player but doesn't reallt fit what this team is trying to do. I don't know y people are so intent on trading players for nothing in return. As soon as they go from a 27 win team to a 17 win team people will be complaining how bad of a move they made...Philly fans are becoming some of the biggest hypocrits. tru1776er
My car's parked near City Hall. If Iggy needs a ride to the airport, lemme know. I'd do that trade for a sack of sweaty tubesocks, with no stipulation that even a single matching pair is contained therein. KDH
The Clips have nothing to offer realistically. I'll take Aminu & Kaman but that's not being realistic. They need to listen to any team with any offer at all times. Doesn't mean we need to do anything, just listen to what other teams wanna offer us because we have no untouchables. Everybody wants cap relief....well I don't trust the Sixers when it comes to free agents. Ever. XmarksTheSpot

What's the coach supposed to say? Yeah, "he's a great defensive player, but vastly overpaid." "He's not a leader." We have enough guard/forward combo's that aren't effective shooters? I don't care if he's versatile in international play. Him guarding the 4 in that practice means nothing to the NBA. Is he going to guard Chris Bosh? LOL. If the Clippers are dumb enough to want him at that salary, I say let 'em have him. CJ84
So overrated, why would someone trade for him?? JohnRusenko
