Iguodala on trading block? Probably not now
Bob Cooney
Various reports are saying that the Los Angeles Clippers are looking to get in touch with the 76ers about swingman Andre Iguodala. When contacted this morning, president/general manager Ed Stefanski said that he would not comment on any trade talks.
A trade of Iguodala now doesn't seem to jive with what new coach Doug Collins has been saying since his May hiring, which is that he is looking forward to coaching Iguodala and it is his belief that the 6-7 Arizona product can be one of the best defensive players in the league.
"I think this summer is such a great thing for his career," said Collins this morning while on his way to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas to watch Iguodala practice with Team USA. "I'm very excited about being his coach. We need him for the type of defensive team we want to be. I think he can be the best defensive player at his position in the league.
"During the practices, my son Chris (who is helping out for head coach Mike Krzyzewski) said that Dre had defended four different positions yesterday. There were situations where he defended the four (big forward), because in International play, the four is often a smaller guy. I think he's in a great place. Even since my first conversation with him out in California after I was hired, things have been terrific. I think things are headed in a real good place."
Which would seem to indicate that Iguodala is not headed anywhere right now.

Gee, I thought Collins would have told the fans, local, and national media if Iguodala was actually on the block. Hugh_S
Yea, package him with Turner. i seen films of Turner playing in the summer league. Not good. watsonmr
cbent1..iggy is not clutch? i guess u forgot that game winning shot against the magic in the playoffs 2 years ago? or the clutch three he hit over kobe in la to win it? i agree with some of the posts..why would u trade your best player for nothing..he is not getting pd as a top player but half that and like it or not he is our number one option. only thing iggy needs to work on is his shot selection..if u are a slasher u take it to the rack and draw fouls..which iggy needs to do more of. bigjay215
bigjay those weren't last season those were the season before and those are two examples. I guess you didn't watch any games last season where he constantly missed free throws and wide open jump shots in the final six minutes of numerous games that we lost by three points or less. Trade him for nothing because we could use the cap space and he isn't worth it. Jrue is already a much better shooter than him and Jrue and Turner are the future of this franchise, NOT Iggy. He needs to work on his wide open jump shooting and his free throw shooting but players making what he makes shouldn't have to work on those things so he needs to go! CBent1
Ed Stefanski should be fired! Brand and Igoudala are contracts that will keep the Sixers from being competitive for years. sbdons1982
I don't really blame Stefanski for the Brand and Iggy signings. In the 2008 playoffs we played the Pistons well and it looked like the major thing we were lacking was an inside presence so the Brand signing made sense. Iggy looked like a potential superstar at the time as well. The Eddie Jordan signing is what killed this team. Actually maybe it didn't because without Jordan we wouldn't have gotten Turner. CBent1
Please, Stefanski is the 2nd worst GM this team has ever had - trailing only the moron who traded Moses for Jeff Ruland. He brought in two sorry coaches. He brings in an over the hill retread like Collins. He gives max money to two stiffs like Brand and Igoudala. The only reason people like him is because he is White. Period. sbdons1982
Sbdons I never said I like him I said I don't blame him for the moves he made. They made sense at the time. Regarding your comment that people only like him because he is white. I am going to say nothing and just report abuse for that comment. CBent1
Turner's a bust. I know it's early, but he's a bust. A nice guy, and he's mature, but he's not an elite player. If anything he'd probably be better at the point. I wanted Favors, but thought Cousins would be a great player. But I heard everyone mentioning his maturity level. It's hard to gauge something like that from the couch. Gotta blame the Coaches. The Rules in the NBA are pretty simple. If you have a dynamic point guard like Jrue, no question you get a big man next. After that you simply fill in the blanks. I hope I'm wrong about Turner, but if the summer league dudes, took him out, what will he do against NBA players. 1766
1766 I do see your concern but by definition you can't call him a bust at least until we've played some regular season games. CBent1
Please have mercy on me as a Sixers fan and trade Igoudala then fire Ed Stefanski. Please please please please please please I'm begging you pleading as if my life depended on it. Who ever is making these decisions obviously doesn't care about basketball in this town if something is not done soon. allrightknight- If you get rid of Iggy, please do not complain when the Sixers give up over 100 points per game Cap42
Cap42 Iggy's defense isn't good enough where we'll notice a difference if he leaves. CBent1
Iggy needs to go. I don't like his game at all. Sixers overpaid him and now it is time to right the wrong. jkt
let's see Iguana,Brand,stefanski for 3rd rounder in 2012 lawrence2465
