Iguodala on trading block? Probably not now

Various reports are saying that the Los Angeles Clippers are looking to get in touch with the 76ers about swingman Andre Iguodala. When contacted this morning, president/general manager Ed Stefanski said that he would not comment on any trade talks.
A trade of Iguodala now doesn't seem to jive with what new coach Doug Collins has been saying since his May hiring, which is that he is looking forward to coaching Iguodala and it is his belief that the 6-7 Arizona product can be one of the best defensive players in the league.
"I think this summer is such a great thing for his career," said Collins this morning while on his way to the airport to catch a flight to Las Vegas to watch Iguodala practice with Team USA. "I'm very excited about being his coach. We need him for the type of defensive team we want to be. I think he can be the best defensive player at his position in the league.
"During the practices, my son Chris (who is helping out for head coach Mike Krzyzewski) said that Dre had defended four different positions yesterday. There were situations where he defended the four (big forward), because in International play, the four is often a smaller guy. I think he's in a great place. Even since my first conversation with him out in California after I was hired, things have been terrific. I think things are headed in a real good place."
Which would seem to indicate that Iguodala is not headed anywhere right now.

If you notices all the moves the Sixers made. we are very deep at the forward and center positions in terms of bodies. talent wise is another story. we got 3 centers in Hawes Battie and Jason Smith. We got 2 4s in Brand and Speights and we got 4 threes in Narconi Iggy Kapono and Young. That is 9 Players for 3 spots. Someone Has to go and we cant really take and players back because there is no where for them to play unless we get a really good player which you wont get for Iggy. Also we got 2 guard spots that are locked in with Even Turner and Jru Holliday. Plus Lou williams and Jody Meeks and Willy Green. I really think Iggy has to go and we have to trade him to a team that has cap space so we dont have to take garbage salary in return. there is no point in talking back a decent player back since we have a lot of "decent" players. Let's see how everybody plays together before we start trading our better players. Like him or not Iggy is one of our better players. Rick Wise Guy- Either Iggy or Thad has to go. You can't put two 3s on the court at the same time. I would rather have Thad. We've all seen enough bad body language from Iggy on the court to know he's not a guy to build around. jpk
You always listen when the CLIPPERS talk trade! They historically make horrible moves. Give us Kaman, Eric Gordan and a number 1 pick!!! ArtieLange
Please get rid of this stiff! Even if they give you nothing back. Just get rid of that salary! carlosbeltran
Maybe I am a little crazy but was anyone else mislead by the title of this article? They made it seem like Iggy was on his way out of town and then when you actually read the article it basically says he is staying. Is this even news? You could write an article like this about 95 percent of the players in the NBA... observer01
I like Young. but supposedly he can't play very good defense. Keep that in mind when thinking of parting with Iggy. I'm not against moving him for picks, cap space, etc., but keep defense in mind. ol duke
Yeah Chris Collins says he is a good player...spare me. He can't guard any 4s or even many 3s. You get rid of him to be rid of his horrible contract. JonKap
As much as I want us to trade Iggy, the Clips don't have much to offer. There's no way they're giving up Griffin or Gordon. So that leaves Baron Davis or Chris Kaman. Baron would take away playing time from Holiday and Turner so I'd say it's pretty much just Kaman, who doesn't really fit with this team. younggunna917
Seems like a no brainer. Much needed cap relief, not that I care. The Owners have more than enough money. AI needs a new start. He'll be absolutely miserable with Sixers this year. We're going to lose a ton of games, and it makes sense to just implode and rebuild. I'd trade him for a first round pick this year and whatever else I could get. The Sixers need at least one more player. I'd say, and get a beast. Two first rounders would be a great place to start. 1766
Kaman fits this team perfectly. He was an allstar last season that averaged 19/9. Doug Collins is making the Sixers a halfcourt based team... Kaman fits that type of system perfectly. Igs for Kaman works for me. Gives us offensive balance on the perimeter with Turner and Jrue to go with Kaman and Brand down low. emg2
Trading Andre would be one of the smartest moves the sixers can make provided they get value for him. He is a great number 3 player on a team that needs an identity change. He is being paid like a number one talent and being counted on to produce like one. Both expectations are unrealistic. reveugene
Stefanski and Brand for Brogan. He still playing? LaCroix,Nolet,Gendron
give me Deandre Jordan and Aminu and Iguodola is yours. nycsixerfan
