Sixers president Rod Thorn and coach Doug Collins said that starting center Spencer Hawes is seeking a second opinion on his strained left Achilles' and will probably remain out of the lineup until after the February 26th All-Star game. The Sixers first game after that will be on Tuesday, February 28th in Detroit.

Hawes will miss his 15th of 17 games tonight when the Sixers play at the Orlando Magic. Sitting courtside while the players warmed up, Thorn said: "We haven't made that determination for sure yet, but the odds are that he probably will (sit out until after All-Star break). He's not ready to play yet and we certainly don't want him to go back out there until he is ready to play. I think the chances are that he won't play until after All-Star.

"(A second opinion) is probably what we'll do. That's what you always do with a player. If he's not coming along as well as you'd like and he's interested in maybe looking at a second opinion then you always do that."

The Sixers have been able to avoid the injury causing them losses, as they are 20-9 entering tonight's game. Still, it is becoming very alarming that Hawes can't get himself righted.

"It's always a concern when a guy who was playing as well as he was playing is not able to play. He's played those two games. As far as the team goes we've made the adjustments that we could make. Hopefully he'll be well sooner than later and he'll be ready to go again."

More to come...

Hawes is battling two injuries which have slowed his progress. I doubt if we see until the playoffs. This team cut their noses off to spite this face when they dumped Speights. Sure would be nice to see Speights and Vevices starting with Brand coming off the bench.

I think Maresse Speights put a curse on Hawes going out the door.

After watching the sixers get destroyed by the Magic. Get rid of Elton now.Not next year now. He cant guard me and I'm 52 years old. Everyone knows this was one of the worst deals in NBA history. Just cut that over the hill under sized spare and just eat the cap money. heres the reason why. I would rather lose more games playing Vuc,Allen than watch him. Just knowing he;s getting over 18 million a year makes me throw up!!!!!!!!!!!!! Can we say Loser!!!!!!!!!!!!

After a great start to the season this sixer team has really been dissapointing as of late to say the least. Sixers are last in the league going the the Free throw line. This bad bunch of shooters can't fast break anymore and i'm not sure why and they just want to shoot 20 to 30 ft jumpers. Whats going on Doug Collins. We have speed and quickness why do we no longer drive to the basket. We just take stupid wild jump shoots.
We have no big men period. Brand ______s! That is being nice. Hawes is a 23 year old and broken down. Meeks cant hit my house with the ball. Evan Turner looks lost. D.C now cant even figure out a rotation oh boy can we say this team is heading backwards fast!

The sixers should put battie and Elson in the starting lineup.
