Evan Turner out of starting lineup for tonight's game in Atlanta

After struggling the past four games, rookie Evan Turner has been removed from the starting lineup, coach Doug Collins said today after the team's shootaround in Atlanta.
Collins said that either Andres Nocioni or Jodi Meeks would step into the starting lineup tonight. Collins said that he wanted Turner to come off the bench and handle the ball more with the second group.
Turner has made just 2 of his last 14 shots and scored 7 points in his past four games.
The guess here is that Collins will go with Meeks tonight as he has been shooting the ball well of late and has played very well on the defensive end.

Why do I get the feeling 5 years from now we'll be talking about Turner the way we talk about Iguadala now....nice player, needs to be 3rd option on a good team not the 1st. I hope I'm wrong but I just see a guy with an average mid range jump shot & not athletic enough to finish around the rim. cannon00
Shouldn't be getting role players with the 2nd overall pick. Cannon is correct. He will never be a #1 option. He cant get his own shot. Furthermore...he has about as much arc on his free throws as shaq. pman508
"Collins said that he wanted Turner to come off the bench and handle the ball more with the second group."
So he is basically our back up point guard? I hope they start Meeks instead of Nocioni. I hope Turner takes this as a learning lession, and watches Meeks go out and "Shoot" the ball like a Shooting guard.
The reality is that Turner is not a bad player, he simply plays the same game as Drue Holiday, were he needs the ball in his hand to create, which begs the question why do the Sixers year after year draft the same mold of a player.

If Turner turns out as good as Iguodala we should jump for joy. I wonder if he will even be in the league in 5 years. borncynic
Because everyone else said Turner was the 2nd-best player in the draft after Wall. Nice work, Sucksers. PhillySubsMac
Way too early to judge Turner, just as it is too early to judge Cousins, Favors, Johnson, or any of the other draftees, except Wall, who is special. chuckw
Oh yeah, this makes sense - the team's won 2 games in a row with it's youngest, most highly touted developing player in the starting lineup, but now the Sixers are going to bench him. Just foolishness. Truth B. Told
He's still developing. Coming off the bench won't hurt him. At trade deadline or this summer they will trade Andre I., which will open up more playing time for Turner. 76er- Im all for giving the kid a chance to develop and find his role in the offense. However, does anyone else find it odd that we drafted a "shooting" guard that cannot shoot? Thats like hiring an accountant who cant count, it just doesnt make sense. I would have though that his need for the ball and inconsitent shooting would have been somewhere in the scouting report. I still think we missed out on the best player available ( Cousins) who would have been a valuable post presence this season. Dawk20
CAN WE PLEASE DRAFT/TRADE FOR A REAL CENTER SO THAT FORWARDS CAN PLAY THEIR TRUE POSITION!!! THESE GLIDING AND ATHLETIC FORWARDS ARE JUST THAT...DECENT FORWARDS. AND, THESE GUARD/FORWARDS ARE EVEN WORSE. PLEASE.....PLEASE...PLEASE....CAN I HAVE A CENTER LIKE MALONE AGAIN. psuwelsh
@Kane: I think you make a good, general, point about the 76ers drafting the same mold of player: somewhere between 6'3 and 6'10 who is athletic, and who can be sold as versatile. No 7 footers who can play need apply, or smallish point guards. However, at least with Turner and Holiday, the 76ers took too players with some dribbling skills, who might be able to escape trouble and, possibly, create their own shot. Hopefully, with Collins and Thorn in the mix, the evaluation process changes, and the team becomes more aggressive and decisive. 76erfn
