Eddie Jordan, the former coach of the Sacramento Kings and the Washington Wizards, interviewed for the Kings job Tuesday in Las Vegas and said Philadelphia could be his next stop.

In an interview that was broadcast by Comcast SportsNet, Jordan said he he has had ''minimal contact'' with the Sixers and "I'm expecting to go back tomorrow and maybe have some conversation with them before the end of the week.''

Jordan, a former Rutgers star who won a championship as a player with the Los Angeles Lakers, has a history with Ed Stefanski, the Sixers' president/general manager. Jordan was an assistant coach and Stefanski was an executive with New Jersey as the Nets made two trips to the NBA Finals.

Stefanski began his coaching search Monday after Tony DiLeo--the in-season replacement for the fired Maurice Cheeks--withdrew his name from consideration for the permanent job, resuming his duties as senior vice-president/assistant general manager.

After meeting with the Kings, Jordan said "People have to feel good about you, so I'm hoping that Joe and Gavin (owners Joe and Gavin Maloof) felt good about our conversation and my personality and my leadership qualities and the fact that I'll be going back and most likely speaking with Philadelphia unless the Kings just won't let me leave, they make me an offer I can't refuse and I would love to come back.''

The Kings were scheduled to interview former NBA coach Paul Westphal Wednesday in Las Vegas.

At the same time, TNT analyst Doug Collins, who has expressed interest in the Sixers' job through agent John Langel, denied a published report that he had spoken to the Sixers.

"I have not spoken to the Sixers, and they have not called me,'' Collins said. "It's good that we can get that clarified. If there was a little misinformation in the way it was reported or the way I said it to make it look like I had spoken to them--I have not spoken to them.''

He also said "I apologize to Ed Stefanski if they felt like I was putting something out there that was not true.''

Stefanski, in an email response to the Daily News, said he had not spoken to Collins.

Avery Johnson provides defense and structure. He helped in the development of the point guard now with the Nets. We need Lou to grow like that. But a replacement at the center position is of greater impact than who is the next coach

Nice way to bring up the young guys. Give them a new coach every six months. Cheeks should have played out the year. He deserved more than 23 games after the season the Sixers had the prior year. DiLeo was one of the least competent coaches to come through this town. What kind of plan was that by Stefanski to blow out a legend for a guy who wanted to be home playing with his kids. What a waste! I'm glad Stefanski gave Cheeks the extension right before he fired him. Eddie "Mr." Snyder should have made Stefanski cough up the money he paid Cheeks.

Doug Collins is one of the best basketball minds out there.... he would be an excellent choice. Just don't understand why it took them this long to go after him. People don't give him credit for it, but a young jordan needed help trying to get the ball cause teams was denying him.... Doug started having Jordan bring the ball up the court. Think about it Mike brung collins to washington with him... that mean something...... And Eddie jordan stinks as a coach and as a player.... Average... look at the wizard average team with good more talent than the sixers. Van Gundy will be boring basketball and mark jackson... i do know... I thought Cheeks would be good but who knew??? Doug is the best choice by far!!!!!

Don't let Van Gundy the TV version, cloud your thinking on Van Gundy the coach. He would be a solid choice.

Eddie Jordan? The Sixers would be better off playing the season without a coach. Bring in Avery Johnson.

Why not Bill Lambeer or Rick Mahorn? At least the players will play hard or the coach will kick their arse. If we wait a week or 2 the Sixers can interview Tom Thibodeau from the Celtics. Whatever we do we need to hire someone other than Eddie Jordan, Doug Collins, Jeff VanGundy or Avery Johnson.

Why can't we go with a fresh face? Eddie J's track record speaks for itself, he's a mediocre coach at best that won't get past the first round of the playoffs. I like the Marc Jackson idea.

I'd like to see Avery Johnson. He can coach and he won't play favorites or take it lightly when players under-perform.

With all seriouness I really wish the Sixers would consider a coach who is a proven winner not a wana be, with that Bill Laimbeer is a great choice (although he's not been mentioned)John Thompson, Someone out of the Lakers, Celtics organizations or how about Rudy T.?

Just tell me this, why couldn't upper management just go to Mo and say "look Mo, ur lineups stink, u need to stop forcing things down low to brand (a problem that would've taken care of itself), why couldn't mo see that his rotations were messed up, get evans more minutes, get thad and ingo off the floor at the same time. Even dust off donyell marshall more than once a month. The sixers are in the bottom third of talent in the league. The NBA playoffs for the most part......UNWATCHABLE

Jeff Van Gundy has coached big games....stars....dealt with the NY spotlight and Had success. Mike Fratello has been railroaded and screwed over in his last 2 jobs despite being an excellent coach. I hate the NBA coaching carousel, but I like these two

Chris Ford is not a sexy choice, but he can coach. He did well with Boston. When the team starts winning, the fans will come back. A winner will draw fans.

@drew777....fans are already staying away for one reason or another, i think the sixers finished the season ranked 25th in attendance. its embarrassing. so hiring a coach like eddie jordan wont push or pull fans at all. hell, if they got doug collins, it wouldnt make fans come out of the woodwork either.

Ed Stefanski, please do not bring in Eddie Jordan. He is not what we need and if you think he is then you need to go. I am not impressed with your first year as GM and if you continue to make huge mistakes, you will put our sixers down for the count.

If Jordan gets this job I'm done with Sixers. This smells like an Ed hiring his cronies. Fans will stay away in droves if gets hired.
