Royce White...the meter breaks!...10...10...10...Terrence Ross if they keep #15, If they somehow procure #7 for Golden State, it's Myers Leonard...Moe Harkless could be the guy at #15 if Ross is gone, but at least 3 teams in the lottery (Sacramento,Portland,Golden State) would like to trade back a little to get him. bearsfriend- Bear... I like Royce White a LOT. But the whole "can't fly on planes" thing is a big problem in the NBA. With that said, they could take that chance on him. He really is a top ten talent. I'm all for drafting Terrance Ross. This is what the Sixers need. I really hope they dont draft Leonard either. We already drafted a 7 foor project last season. Let's just build him. Vucevic is a skilled center.

The Sixers have the worst front offices ever in thee nba bear. They will draft a point guard. Free26Bucknell
considering that their under new ownership and are getting a new gm, I am not really sure how you can make the judgment. jbzuck
Nice work, this shows that drafting is not an exact science. The only player they agree on is Ross, with Cooney giving him an 8 and Smalls giving him a 7. Also we pump these 20 yr olds up like they're the next big thing, notice Professor Cooney gave out 3's to Leonard, Rivers & Zeller and a 4 to Moultrie. IMO the 2 most ready to contribute in the NBA are Ross and Harkless. Harkless may be the best player on the board when we pick but he's another Iggy/ET type. Can we can't keep drafting those guys? mtairy1
Free26Bucknell... "They", or whichever Sixers GM regime you are referring to, haven't really drafted poorly at all considering where they end up in the draft each season. And this season they are focused on shooting and size. Clearly you don't follow this team. I will say this though.... "They" have made some bad signings throughout the past decade. Al3000
Can we please take Perry Jones III? I don't care about motor or questionable character. All these players are just another non-impact role guy. At least Jones III has upside. If he doesn't pan out we basically will have missed out on another Speights or Vucevic. Not an organizational killer. Take the guy who might actually be an above average NBA player and worry about the other stuff later. Charlie Cheswick
Bob, you're nuts. Is the plan to eventually get the entire team under 6'10"? T
mtairy:BC's on Terrence Ross...also, I think he feels the Sixers wouldn't go Leonard (which would entail a move) or Zeller because he feels strongly the "big" is going to be a veteran, especially in lieu of Vucevic and LaVoy still being babes in the woods...Interesting that Moultrie is a wide variance...the talent is there, the "DC mentality" may not be..I'll go with the beat writer over the coliumnist on that one, as he knows DC better,IMO. bearsfriend
@Charlie Cheswick, I'm a Ross guy because I think he can develop into a good NBA player and can shoot but you make a good point. These guys will most likely have long NBA careers but Perry Jones is one of the few (Davis, Drummond, Waiters) that could potentially be a star. Unfortunately I think some of the bad teams picking ahead of us are going to come to the same conclusion you did. mtairy1- well yeah it will depend on his availability obviously. some mocks have him slipping to us other's don't. i just think if he does slip we'd be crazy not to risk it.
Charlie Cheswick
mtairy"one other thing...The Sixers did interview Drummond at the Combine...And they're obviously interested in Leonard...Both very young, both really athletic, talented, and considered raw...If the Sixers DO go veteran approach, whether it be a Gasol/Jefferson type contract, or a another year of Hawes type serviceable, it's not going to be that athletic big at the 5...I thing BC may have underscored Leonard a touch,IMO...Unless they feel Moultrie continues to fill out with his growth, can pick up center minutes as a contributor. bearsfriend- Would love to get Drummond but I think a couple other teams are jockeying to get him.
Doug may be the league's premier promoter of the small ball trend. If the team adds a pure 2 with range to the jrue, turner, iggy rotation, they will be that much stronger in controlling games from the perimeter. The front court is a mess, but you got Thad, Allen and Elton and hopefully Vuc out of the doghouse. Two more picks 2nd round picks to try to get lucky, or amnesty Brand and pick up Humphrey, etc. rzzzzz
Bear: did you see Cooney's brief bio on Leonard last night; brutal!! He would be wise to attend the workout today. I prefer a shooter from the draft, even if they re-sign Williams, one or two veteran bigs from trade and free agency, especially IF Hawes is not re-signed.
As for Perry Jones, III, does DC have the patience for another guy who needs an attitude adjustment? Somehow, I doubt it. If they do take a big, look for Nicholson at 15. If they fall in love with Leonard, they would need to trade up which appears unlikely.
I don't believe they will amnesty Brand, nor do I believe they will go after Humphries. As I said last night, they can add Kanye West to the ownership group and Kim Kardashian would then attend the games sans Humphries. chuckw
I get the feeling that the Daily News was determined to have a face-off between two reporters, rather than let the actual beatwriter for the team go it alone. Thus, Smallwood who looks like he used a dartboard for his guesses.
As for the Sixers Front Office gang not drafting badly over the years, how many starters have they drafted since Iverson, a period of 15 years? Dalembert, Iguodala and Holiday, with Turner starting occasionally. Williams, who I like, and Young have yet to prove they are starters in this league. chuckw- Most of their picks are solid NBA players...Green, Korver, Dalembert, LouWill, Jason Smith, Iggy, Thad, Holiday,. No stars though
John Henson and Royce White will make 6ERS a fun TEAM to watch. Trade either Igg or Thad for #8 spot and get JOHN off the board firt, secondly at 15 we get ROYCE WHITE and all WE can say : WE DO !! for the night.
If we let Thad go, bring Louis Will back and sign him with 6.5 - 7 mil per year (5 yrs), no harm .
Keep EB until next year to get enough money for a START PLAYER to take the TEAM OVER. This is a SOLID PLAN for the future we should consider now.
phillafuN- Sorry Bob but you completely lost me with such a low rating for Zeller but you somehow found a way to give props (limited)to the next Asheem Thabeet, Moultrie. He has bust written all over him.
Comment removed.
The first question to these 2 should have been are the Sixers colors red white and blue. They dont agree on anything. And some of there assessments are as different as you can get.

chuck:I did notice it when I read it early this morning, and I was glad to see you called him on it some,,,Each scouting site has their own +/- on skill sets...I believe a real good one is the Mike Schmitz video reports...(BC used this one as I recognize alot of the wordings)...At least BC's measurements are correct...JM's were ridiculously off...Leonard shined offensively at the Combine, which was after all scouting reports on offensive deficiencies were gathered...Also, at Illinois, that really was a bad situation with lots of "keepaway"...What do you think of the Rockets making a run for Dwight Howard?...Kyle Lowry and probably Kevin Martin get traded withing 48 hours. bearsfriend
Is it me or is this the best draft in a long time? JayOfDaJungle
Bear: Rockets just traded for Minnesota's 18th pick for Chase Budinger and the draft rights to Lior Eliyahu and, according to ESPN are looking to trade their two first round picks to move up to #5, Sacramento's pick and trading Lowry for another pick, all to get the Magic to trade Howard. Houston looks to be serious but the Kings have not yet agreed to a deal. chuckw
phillafun:I agree about Royce White being an exciting player...Offensively, he's a rare player who can really help a team both in an up tempo situation as well as the dreary half court sludge that NBA Playoff basketball becomes...He also gives any team instant flexibility in mismatches, and can expose teams in a spaced out floor, which NBA teams strive to do...Good passers breed others on the team to play the same way,IMO. bearsfriend
chuck:These should count as "Draft Night" trades...but, oh well...Interesting that Minnesota traded away #18...Royce White has been quoted as saying he'd lop off his "pinkie right toe" to play at home...guess he'll get an anxiety attack (bad joke)...Regarding the Kings, here's a pathetic note for you...i've read that although they were slotted at #5, Andre Drummond was the ONLY potential top 6 guy to attend an individual workout there!....MKG,Beal,Barnes,Robinson all said "sorry,we're busy"...Lowry and Kevin McHale didn't like each other too much. bearsfriend
Evaluating college players is tough because they play against inferior competition. I like to see what pro players they are being compared to. Here's what I found:
Perry Jones: originally thought to be the next Kevin Durant but I'd settle for the good Rashard Lewis or Rudy Gay. Downside he could be another Tim Thomas
Terrence Ross: could be a Jason Richardson/Eddie Jones type. A unique combination of finishing strong at rim and spot up shooting.
Myers Leonard: downside Robin Lopez, upside Joakim Noah. Both are energetic but only 1 is good.
Austin Rivers: He has a scorers mentality. Some think he can be a scoring pg but I think he's better suited for the 2. He can become a Jason Terry/OJ Mayo player
Moe Harkless: A great athlete who may still be growing. Most compare him to Paul George but if he gets a more consistent outside shot he could develop into Danny Granger,
Tyler Zeller: He's been compared to a lot of people, none of them are that good. I've heard Jeff Foster, Joel Przybilla, Omer Asik, Dan Gadzuric and even Spencer Hawes. He has career NBA role player written all over him.
Arnett Moutrie: Upside Al Horford, downside Jordan Hill. More likely PJ Brown. Cole_World
jayofdajungle:this time last year I couldn't pronounce half of the prospects in the Draft...this year, it's deeper, as so many freshman and sophmores are going pro...It's an interesting problem, talented guys who may still be lacking the completion of their games...Doesit result in a watered down product...or guys that just take longer to blossom, meaning they develop years into their careers, maybe in 2cnd contracts, if they get em. bearsfriend
What would you think if the Sixers drafted Sullinger? A few of the latest mocks have him falling to the Sixers (and below if they don't take a chance on him). If he's healthy, he may have the biggest upside of any power forward in the draft (at least a power forward that the Sixers could potentially draft). terrizeb
Elton Brand will be the "big" in the high-post this year. No way they amnesty him now. The F.A.s just aren't worth it. With Lavoy and EB, the Sixers can afford to draft a Center that won't be immediately ready. Copper34
Sorry, would stay away from Sullinger aka the next Sean May. There's a reason he'll be watching the draft from his dorm room in Columbus. Cole_World
I want 2 picks in this deep draft. Ross and Terrence Jones. Rivers and Perry Jones. Waiters and Henson. I'll take any combination. OG
perry jones would be a good choice at 15. the sixers have showed with ET that they drafted for need then, getting a good player. however, with this pick if jones is taken, they should go after Arnette Moultrie. he has just what the Doctor ordered. size, fierce rebounder and an engine that never stops. get either ( Jones III, or Moultrie ) and look out NBA EAST. GO SIXERS kerryt
I forgot to include how we'd get the 2 picks. Trade Evan Turnover and/or Marshmellow Vucevic to any sucker that will have them...Hornets, Warriors, Kings, Blazers, Raptors. See how much a young over-dribbler and a young big marshmellow are worth on the open market. OG
Cole_World-agreed...but he'll be in a restaurant. By the time he gets selected, he might be 290 again. bearsfriend- Who the Sixers should take if available - 1. Arnett Moultrie, 6'-10" MSU, 2. Terrence Ross, 6'-7" Wash, 3. Terrence Jones, 6'-9" Kentucky, 4. Jared Sullinger, 6'-9" OSU. In the 2nd round, I would like to get Miles Plumlee, 7'-0" Duke, Kevin Jones, 6'8" WV, Jae Crowder, 6'-6" Marq or Quincy Acie, 6'8" Baylor. The Sixers should not forget about the defensive end of the court. Lina5614
draft is only part of off-season roster moves. its ok to draft small shooter, as long as they get BIG thru trade and free-agency. they have all 3 options available. hope they don't get desperate and overpay for just decent player. better, better, better. keep train moving in right direction. fishtown charlie
Trade Turner, Thad and a second round pick to the Hawks for Josh Smith before the Rockets get him!!! Meekssucks
Some of us wanted Josh Smith 4 years ago when MGMT got us Elton. Do any of us still want the 4-years-older Josh Smith who sulks and plays when he pleases? tomvallar

Bob Cooney has been at the Daily News for more than 20 years, working in the sports department for the past 15. This is his third season on the Sixers beat. He has covered just about everything, but mostly college basketball, where he was the La Salle beat writer for six seasons. E-mail Bob at
