The worst pick by the Sixers since Christian Welp. Horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible, horrible pick.

Well Thorn said he would draft for potential not need and he seems to think Harkless has a lot of potential.

First of all the Sixers are not done. I like Moultrie who will be our power forward. It all means to me that the Sixers perhaps will be active in the free agent market. They will trade Iguodala and that is for sure. They can amnesty Brand with Moultrie on board. Perhaps they will make some noise.

Does this mean that we will keep Brand and get rid of his contract after next year? I could see giving up #1 next year if brands expiring contract can give us a starting top five player at his position next year. Please play these young guys this year and see what we have. We know competeing wiyh miami is out for next year but, Bosch gets hurt alot and he is a real important part of Miami' success

thankfully the present sixers front office is making the moves here and not John or many of the posters on these boards. JS mentions making the 7th game of the EC semis. any objective NBA viewer knows that if Rose does not go down along with Noah getting hobbled this team as constructed most likely gets swept in the first round. That certainly was the expectation of the majority of analysts. so to make moves for the future using last year's playoff run as a base to build on is ludicrous. This was a 500 team that took advantage of a stable roster and youth to make headway in an aborted compressed season and barely made the playoffs. There is no sense in thinking we are taking a step forward next year unless serendipity strikes again. There are serious roster and contract issues and the only real way to address them long term when you have a pick in the teens is to take a chance on talent. Simply adding a shooter or a big man to this roster is nothing but a guarantee for more muddling in the muck during a real NBA season. Overall the team is too short in both wingspan and height. Harkless addresses both of those needs and showed in his tryouts he could possibly be a much better shooter than folks give him credit for. And we all know DC will not be giving him extended minutes unless Maurice simply shocks the house. In fact it is quite likely (unless someone knocks the FO out with a fab trade offer) AI will be here to show MH the ropes - which is not the worst of all possible outcomes. We need to be building for the future because last year was a mirage.

Smallwood's last comment seems to indicate that he thought the Sixers, at pick 15, were going to do something that would immediately improve the team and help them to go deeper in the playoffs. I just don't think it's realistic to draft for need AND get an immediate contributer AND have him to a difference maker in the playoffs at pick 15. Heck, it may not be realistic at about any pick outside the top five if you look at recent draft history.

What shooters or posts were going to fill that need that were still on the board? Zeller? Jenkins? Sorry, I just don't see it.

Time will tell. I find it interesting that the more objective NBA-TV analysts ALL thought the sixers did a great job in the draft. FYI--as a transplanted sixers fan currently in NY, the local press/fans thought this kid was a fantastic player.

Just because the small forwards the Sixers have now don't score enough is no reason to believe they will never get one who can. He put up some good numbers in the Big East as a Freshman. Let's not start with the BS and whining before he ever sets foot on the court.
